User :   Hi, ive had a small hard lump under the skin in my labia majoria?? for 4 days it is movable and ive tried to pop it but no head or anything, it is sore to touch and the glands in my groin are swollen, help??
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
Doctor :   let me read ur query
User :   hi
Doctor :   ok
User :   ??
Doctor :   i guess you have an inflammed gland in the labia
User :   do i need to see a dr or will it heal itself?
Doctor :   but it is not going to last for more than a week
User :   the lump getting bigger ,is that normal
Doctor :   take some anti inflammatory drug like ibuprofen for 2-4 days
Doctor :   and this will reduce the inflammation
Doctor :   and the swelling will reduce
User :   and it will just go away by itself?
Doctor :   may i know which part of the labia is it situated, within the posterior 1/3 rd or the anterior 2/3rd ?
User :   closer to the top
Doctor :   Yes once the inflammation settles , it will heal by itself within days
User :   is this a normal thing than?
Doctor :   but a course of antibiotics, will hasten recovery
User :   what causes the inflammation?
Doctor :   its a common infection occuring in sexually active women due to injury to the bartholins gland or any hair follicles , which then get infected
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   yes
User :   so how do i prevent it in future
Doctor :   have u followed my comments ?
User :   yes
Doctor :   these things cannot be prevented much, other than maintaining genital hygiene
User :   ok thank you, will take some ibuprofen and see how it goes, i dont like taking antibiotics unless absolutely necessary
Doctor :   if it does not heal within 2 -3 days then please consult ur GP, who may advice u some antibiotics, which may help recovery
User :   ok will give it 3 more days, thanks
Doctor :   do u have any other query ?
User :   yes but unrelated to the last one
Doctor :   please proceed
User :   i have just given up smoking 10 days ago and i was wondering if the tar and rubbish that accumulates on your lungs and airways can be coughed up in phlegm
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   it cannot
User :   so you never get it out of your system
Doctor :   but the effect of smoking over the years, can be reduced , over time once smoking has been stopped
User :   how long does it take for your health to improve and you feel the benefits of giving up
Doctor :   say by 10 years of quitting , the risk of cancer can be negligible, and becomes the same as nonsmokers .
Doctor :   you will feel better and good instantly
Doctor :   but the risks of lung cancer, that is the only worry gets reduced over time
User :   ive smoked for 20 years and given up for only 10 days and im not feeling any better
Doctor :   coz, u may be having the effects of withdrawal symptoms
Doctor :   are u on nicotine supplements ?
Doctor :   if not, then u may be having nicotine withdrawal issues
User :   ive been taking champix but now only taking it once a day in the morning, i have no desire for cigarettes
Doctor :   thats good
Doctor :   just keep your motivaation , so that u can quit smoking sucessfully
User :   do you have any other suggestions to quit successfully as i have tried many times and failed and alot of it is not the withdrawal i suffer with but the association such as having a coffee, after meals etc
Doctor :   if champix does not feel right for u, u can try nicotine supplmentation, via transdermal patches or chewing gum
User :   ok thanks for your help
Doctor :   like nicoderm or nicorrette gum
Doctor :   you are welcome
User :   ive tried both before and they havent helped me
Doctor :   may i know how long have u tried them ?
User :   8 weeks i was on the patches and i used the gum on occassions when i thought i neede it
Doctor :   Im sorry to know that those methods have not helped
Doctor :   In that case a combination of medications and counseling can help
Doctor :   Do u smoke in company of others ?
User :   no, my partner is a heavy smoker and it doesnt make me want one,
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   thats good to know
Doctor :   please consult your GP, who can give u additional supportive medications to hellp u quit smoking
