User :   I had an xray of my hand, because of possible carpel tunnel. The space between the thumb and index finger, there is a small dark area. What does that mean?

User :   I am assuming yes, but not sure. Have been having pain, mainly in wrist area also.

User :   He recommended a bone scan. Could this be arthritus also?
Doctor :   is it really dark or is it grayish in colour?
User :   It appeared more on the dark side to me.
Doctor :   Each radiograph has a continuum of shades from black to white in its images due to the way the body structures or tissues absorb the x-ray beam.
Doctor :   white if it shows means the bone
Doctor :   and the darker it responds to either air or soft tissue
Doctor :   besides the pain in your wrist do you have anyother medical condition ?
User :   Not that I am aware of. Just woke up one day with this pain in hand. Sometimes it goes up to the elbow.

User :   When at home. I am a hairstylist by trade.

User :   It is also weaker, especially if I am trying to open or squeeze something. The pain is like a dull ache. Seems to be always there.

User :   Sometimes in shoulders, and back of neck area.
User :   Would a bone scan of my hand be in order ?

Doctor :   the radiation levels are extremely low
User :   So, it will show more than the xray?
Doctor :   yes sure xrary is the first line of diagnostic test
Doctor :   bone scan gives a more clear view
User :   I see, so I should do this?
Doctor :   yes i strongly recommend you should go ahead and do it
