User :   Any suggestions for acute, severe pain from trapped air in stomach/intestines? If natural childbirth pain was a 10, this pain is a 7. I am at work and cannot leave; usually if this happens, there are some stretches I do that help, but today, that did not work. It is too painful to walk.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi. Thank you for helping.
Doctor :   let me read ur query
User :   By way of background, I am 41, normal weight.
User :   About 10 years ago when this type of pain started, my dr ended up determining it is IBS.
User :   I usually can prevent this with diet, or if I do get this pain, with some stretching.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   so it seems that you have bloating due to collection of gas
User :   I do tend to be constipated, although I started taking Vesicare about 2 months ago, and find that that helps w/the constipation.
User :   Based on past diagnosis, that is my layman's guess - excessive gas.
User :   I cannot leave work; but I also cannot move due to the pain.
Doctor :   you can take activated charcoal tablets
Doctor :   for the gas
User :   i would get those OTC at a drugstore?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   the name is charcoal
User :   is there any food or drink that might mimic the charcoal that I might find at work?
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   charcoal is a medication that absorps the excess gas
Doctor :   no other food can help in this
User :   May I ask if it is possible that the gas is from post-nasal drip? I may have a sinus infection; definitely a mild cold virus.
Doctor :   no
Doctor :   PN drip does not cause any gas in the intestines
User :   I have had such good results controlling this problem w/diet; the only aberration was drinking some sparkling water yesterday afternoon. If not the virus, then I would guess the soda water.
Doctor :   drinking too much of soda, can cause such issues
Doctor :   you should reduce drinking them
User :   Thank you very, very much. I will resume my avoidance of all things bubbly, and see if a co-worker might be able to get the charcoal for me. I rarely drink soda b/c I know it can cause this problem. I usually have plain water. You are a generous and kind person to help people! Again, my thanks.
Doctor :   you are most welcome
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
