My mother has, twice in the last year, had episodes of what appeared to be a grand XXXXXXXX seizure. This is new for her. She fainted in the past, but never had convulsions. her doctor is labeling the problem as vasovagal convulsive syncope. Head CT and Brain MRI after the first episode were completely norXXXXXXXX. So was lab work. So far, an EEG has not been done. Since the more recent (2nd) episode, I've been doing some research, and while I see that it might be easy to confuse vasovagal consulsive syncope with tonic-clonic seizure activity, Mom's episodes have more exactly followed what MayoClinic describes as "classic tonic-clonic seizure".

What should we be checking out? Her cardiac risk factors (blood pressure, cholesterol, etc) have always been nil. She is only 52.

Prior to these episodes, for 3-4 years, we as a family have observed intermittent periods of extreme forgetfulness irrationality that mimicked early Alzheimer's type presentation. The doctor considered that diagnosis at one time, but abandoned it, as Mom's periods of lucency are such a majority of the time.

Could there be a link between the intermittent confusion of the past few years and the apparent seizure activity now? Are we being paranoid to insist on further testing?

Thank you!
