User :   61 year male has had a 2" across soft lump on off center back side of neck for about 3 years. It has slowly gotten larger. Doctors have looked and poked at it but done no biopsy. They said it is nothing to worry about. Often a strong smell has been around the neck but we didn't see any thing. Today a small hole opened up and heavy, strong smelling, toothpaste consistency, off-white material started squeezing out. What is this this and should we be concerned?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   I am
User :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   Was the lump soft in consistency before rupture?
User :   Yes, no noticable solid places
Doctor :   What was the size of it?
User :   approx. 2" across
User :   It was about 1/2" above normal skin level
Doctor :   Yes, did it have a punctum on it?
Doctor :   punctum is very slight opening kind
User :   It does now but we didn't see one before it ruptured
Doctor :   Ok, nothing to worry about it
Doctor :   It is most probably a sebaceous cyst
Doctor :   formed inside the sebaceous gland
Doctor :   A form of sweat gland
Doctor :   and it gets infected because of the pollution and the toxic of the body and produces strong odor
Doctor :   The treatment is decortication ( removal from inside) by a Doctor
Doctor :   if it is large
Doctor :   If it small like yours, doctors do not intervene as it ruptures somtime \
User :   If left alone will it regrow?
Doctor :   Actually the collection inside the cyst starts once again
Doctor :   The collection turns like a cheesy kind of material
Doctor :   These are very common and the reason is not known

Doctor :   What one can do is, keep a perfect hygiene
Doctor :   *maintain good hygiene
User :   OK, thanks.
Doctor :   Do you have any more questions regarding this
User :   No, I don't. Thanks.
Doctor :   Now clean the ruptured area, squeeze out the material
Doctor :   Apply antiseptic cream and leave it alone
Doctor :   Do not try to manipulate it more
User :   OK, we will do that. Thanks.
