User :   I'm 24 years old, female, I have Thalassemia as well as Scoliosis. For the past few weeks I have been extremely weak, some days i cannot get out of bed. I have lost considerable amounts of weight, get dizzy spells and there are horizontal ridges on my nails. My complexion is very pale and my hair drops considerably. What foods can you recommend i eat I solve this?

Doctor :   consumption of iron rich foods , is one main necessity
User :   its really taking a toll on my daily life... and i really would like to solve that.
Doctor :   Are you a nonvegetarian ?
User :   Apart from that is there anything else I can do?
User :   Yes i dont eat meat
User :   and Im in school plus I work... so im always on the go!
Doctor :   ok, there are good number of vegetarian foods which give you iron
Doctor :   like , Dates ,Almonds, Oats , Apricots , nuts ,Paprika, sesame seeds, Cashew nuts ,liquorice are rich in iron
Doctor :   Drumsticks if you know , are one iron richest foods
User :   Those are great suggestions.. but what about meals??
Doctor :   Meals with ample amount of protein , and moderate amount of carbohydrate will help here
Doctor :   Proteins likes Pulses ,peas, lima beans, soya ,brown rice , wheat etc are good and easily absorbed

User :   Is this something I would have to deal with all my life??
Doctor :   i would recommend you protein preparations available in the market which do provide all necessary ingredients in one

Doctor :   Like NUTRILITE these are powders
Doctor :   which do contain most of the needed nutrients in simplest form, so as to be absorbed easily

User :   Is this something I would have to deal with all my life??
Doctor :   these are consumed mixed with the milk
Doctor :   two spoons of this powder will be enough to provide the amount of nutrients which a full stomach meal provide
Doctor :   I am afraid to say , as long as thallassemia is expressive you have to deal with these issues
Doctor :   the cure in some is obtained with bone marrow transplantation
User :   Is there anything else I show know about this?
Doctor :   not cure always but for sure the bone marrow transplantation will help in alleviating the symptoms

Doctor :   Avoid consumption of drugs unless necessary
User :   The most drugs I take is pain killers for my back aches... and ferrous sulphate
User :   is that ok?
Doctor :   Bone marrow transplant will replace the diseased blood in the body by healthy blood , though not last long but surely when the blood is replaced you will have less symptoms
Doctor :   yes , but do restrict oral pain killers
Doctor :   try topical pain killers like Diclofenac gel
User :   ohh ok... is bone marrow transplant considered major????
User :   I mean like very very very serious??
Doctor :   No , its a very commonly employed intervention

User :   Before I go, do you have any other advice for me?
Doctor :   Do you smoke or consume alcohol ?
User :   No and no
Doctor :   thats good , as these are one common aggravaters of the illness

User :   Where Im at 6months of the year its usual -20 and below is that bad???

Doctor :   lower temperatures do aggravate the symptoms

Doctor :   And also you can take injectable or oral preparations of Iron
User :   What can you tell me about Hemorexin?
User :   I use that sometimes.. when i remember

Doctor :   I mean oral solution or sandoz ?
User :   Orally.. its a liquid
Doctor :   ya , its fine you can take , it will surely replenish the iron stores with least sideeffects
