User :   All day yesterday I experienced a dry cough off and on. Later in the evening, the coughing got worse. it felt like I was trying to cough up pheglm. had a terrible tingling in my throat. I then began to salivate and eventually I vomited. However, I didn't feel nauseous or sick. After wards, I drank some tea, water and took an allergy pill, because I assumed it was my allergies. that came up but it was more violent and more acidic. it really burned my throat up. as of this morning, I'm still salivating and vomited after drinking water and a decongestant.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :
Doctor :   Let me read the query
User :   ok
Doctor :   What is your age, height and weight?

Doctor :   Did you ever have a similar episode in the past?

Doctor :   Did you ever had similar episodes in the past?
User :   no. this is the first
Doctor :   Do you have problems of indigestion / belching / bloating?
User :   no. not really. sometimes if I have dairy products, but it's not a consistent thing
Doctor :   Do you have problems after having food or certain foods?
Doctor :   Are you allergic to any food ?
User :   no and no
User :   many years ago I used to have issues with starch food. I would get extremely bloated and be in a seriouis amount of pain
User :   and feel really full, but not full at all
Doctor :   The symptoms that you were experiencing looks like a reflux oesophagitis
Doctor :   the burning sensation, dry cough and finally vomitng
Doctor :   Do you run temperature?
User :   yea, the burning sensation came after the 2nd time I vomited. the coughing spells came first
User :   I haven't checked my temperature, but I feel fine
Doctor :   I could relate these symptoms towards a reflux oesophagitis with mild gastritis
Doctor :   The best things to do at this time are
Doctor :   1) No hurry in eating, eat very slowly with proper chewing. Hence do not choose foods which does not require chewing like cheese, butter, ice creams, fried foods
Doctor :   2) No spicy stuff at all
Doctor :   3) Take PRILOSEC OTC, 20 mg early in the morning before breakfast once a day for a week
User :   very interesting. the bulk of what I had yesterday was dairy. I had a bagel with cream cheese and some yogurt
Doctor :   4) Do not leave the stomach empty
User :   oh. ok.
User :   is soup ok?
Doctor :   Bland soup is ok without pepper and chilly
User :   ok
User :   so what's causing the dry cough?
Doctor :   The reflux of acid into the oesophagus
Doctor :   that irritates the vocal cords
Doctor :   This is more if you eat full of stomach
Doctor :   and when you lie down
User :   ok. well, I didn't have a full stomach yesterday. it was pretty empty
Doctor :   Hence consider a gap of 2 hours between meals and bed time
User :   and the coughing started on an empty stomach
Doctor :   Even on empty stomach, the same things happen
Doctor :   because the acids are released and there is no work for them as there is no food inside the stomach
User :   ok
User :   and taking decongestants is a no no? I'm only asking b/c it feels like there is phlegm in my throat
User :   or chest
Doctor :   Here it requires a Doctor's examination
User :   ok
User :   will do
Doctor :   So you can continue to work on these tips
Doctor :   and look if you are doing better in couple of days
User :   alright. will do
Doctor :   Did you follow my suggestions?
Doctor :   Do you have any more questions?
User :   I'm writing them down
User :   and I will go to the store to get Prilosec
