User :   Hi. I am suffering with a bad pain in my fingers for almost 4 years when I write or type. I have Raynauds syndrom and recently had carpal tunnel surgery, but the surgery only helped with pain in my wrists. I'm working as a trainee accountant and study at the evenings and weekends. I had to stop studying last yeat and was off work for 7 months, but no improvement what so ever. I don't what else to do because I can't do my work now....

Doctor :   so after the surgery there was not much improvement ?
User :   no, it only made my wrists better. But when I write I can't feel the finger tips and after few minutes my fingers go stiff and they feel swollen.
Doctor :   and what have the physicians recommended for you?
User :   I've had test done for arthoritis and reumatic arth. but everything was negative
Doctor :   may i know your age please ?
User :   All doctors say they don't know.
User :   I'm 32
Doctor :   was any antibody test done
User :   antibody test? They have done pretty much all possible blood test but nothing
Doctor :   tell me your present symptoms ?
Doctor :   the pain has decreased ?
User :   My fingers and hands are really cold all the time.
User :   The pain gets worse with typing and writing.
User :   I can manage to type for about 30 - 40 minutes if I have to, but I'll be in lots of pain afterwards lasting for few days
User :   Last April it got so bad that I could not even hold a cup or cutlery
User :   if i use computer mouse for a while I can feel if i'm clicking on it at all.
Doctor :   the physician who operated on you, what was his opinion ?
User :   he said it's raynauds syndrom and that's there is nothing else they can do.
User :   as it can't be treated.

User :   I do wear gloves most of the time to keep my fingers warm, but it's not improving
Doctor :   do you smoke ?
User :   no
User :   and I don't take contraception either
Doctor :   i am sure you must be told to avoid caffeine ?
User :   yes I know. I don't drink caffeine drinks
Doctor :   Avoid taking certain medicines that may cause or aggravate Raynaud's phenomenon, such as drugs that affect blood flow, including cold medicines that contain pseudoephedrine; some heart and blood medicines; and migraine headache medicines.
User :   the only medication I'm taking is Adalat which suppose to widen the vains
User :   is it really possible that Raynauds syndrom could cause me all this? Loads of people I know live with it with no pains.
Doctor :   it always depends on the severity of the disease
Doctor :   you should exercise
Doctor :   it improves circulation
User :   I go to the gym - running three times a week and walk every day for over an hour
Doctor :   you are following everything thats good
Doctor :   do massage your hands before going to bed in the night
User :   I know because I'm trying really hard to get better but it doesn't work
Doctor :   it takes time
Doctor :   your pain threshold will increase with time
Doctor :   i konw its really hard
Doctor :   but you need to hang in there
User :   well it's difficult because I'm going to get redundant in June and no one will ever employ me again if I can't perform my job.
User :   I'm just worried that I will have to give up my career and try to find job where I don't have to write of type.
Doctor :   i am sure things will be better by then
User :   do you know any cases like mine? Is it common?
User :   What is your opinion about accupunture, hypnotherapy etc?
Doctor :   yes it is common and all i can say it that you need to be mentally strong and dont give up. i know its hard but you should not give up
Doctor :   you can try acupuncture and see if its benefits you
User :   ok. thank you.
