User :   Hi there, what is the life span, in hours, of the x chromosome and y chromosome once in the female body
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Dr here
Doctor :   they have the life span , as long as the cell lives
Doctor :   there is no fixed time for them, so that they can self destruct, themselves
Doctor :   actually, there is no Y chromosome in the female body
Doctor :   the female is composed of the genotype XX
Doctor :   Are you there ?
User :   Ok I'm trying to conceive a baby girl, how long does y sperm survive once deposited into a female. How long does x chromosome sperm survive
Doctor :   almost all sperms have the same lifespan of 24 hours to be active and fertilise the female egg
Doctor :   there is no differentiation that y carrying chromosomes will life longer or X sperms living longer
User :   On the net it says that x female sperm can live up to 5 days and y male sperm can live only 3 days?
Doctor :   that is incorrect ,
Doctor :   can you provide me where it has been mentioned ?
Doctor :   is it a medical text or a patient related forum
Doctor :   can you please forward me the webpage address
User :   maybe baby website says to help choose gender to abstain from intercousre for 3 days before ovulation to help increase your chances of having a girl
Doctor :   all that is just conjecture
Doctor :   and there is no known medical fact that can confirm these hypotheses
Doctor :   they just give you a false hope
Doctor :   and spread mis-information
Doctor :   all that matters , is this is which sperm fertilises the ovum at the end
Doctor :   there are millions of sperms in the semen deposited during intercourse
User :   My husband and I tried for a baby 3 days before ovulation and I am now pregnant but by your calculation I should not be as you said that sperm only survives 24 hours, I'm confused
Doctor :   out of that only thousands reach the fallopian tube and only one among them is sucessful to fertilize the ovum
Doctor :   have you checked the ovulation timing , by testing ?
User :   yes
Doctor :   In that case, i guess you must be very lucky to have achieved pregancy
Doctor :   thank you for consulting me here
Doctor :   bye for now
