User :   Hi
User :   I have a 10 year old nephew who was recently detected of Diabetes. He is on insulin now. Is there a permanent cure for him?
Doctor :   well your nephew has type 1 diabetes
Doctor :   Type 1 diabetes used to be called juvenile or insulin-dependent diabetes.
User :   yes
User :   he had very high sugar level. around 700
Doctor :   there is no cure for it but with proper diest management and regular insulin . a person can live like a normal human
Doctor :   Diabetes is a lifelong disease for which there is not yet a cure.
Doctor :   but with tight control of blood glucose can prevent or delay complications to the eyes, kidneys, nervous system, and heart in type 1 diabetes.
User :   Sir, even after regular insulin injections his sugar level is at 350 now
Doctor :   it will take time for the levels to be adjusted
Doctor :   The immediate goals of treatment are to treat diabetic ketoacidosis and high blood glucose levels. Because type 1 diabetes can come on suddenly and the symptoms can be severe, newly diagnosed people may need to stay in the hospital.
User :   We have consulted several doctors and some of them have suggested some stem cell therapy
Doctor :   well its still not feasible at thins point of time
User :   sir can you please tell us about this therapy
Doctor :   this**
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Medical researchers believe that stem cell therapy has the potential to dramatically change the treatment of human disease. A number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia
Doctor :   but still not for Diabetes
Doctor :   Stem cells have the remarkable potential to develop into many different cell types in the body during early life and growth. In addition, in many tissues they serve as a sort of internal repair system, dividing essentially without limit to replenish other cells as long as the person or animal is still alive.
Doctor :   Given their unique regenerative abilities, stem cells offer new potentials for treating diseases such as diabetes, and heart disease. However, much work remains to be done in the laboratory and the clinic to understand how to use these cells for cell-based therapies to treat disease, which is also referred to as regenerative or reparative medicine.
User :   Sir does it mean that we will have to wait some more years before this therapy is successful for diabetes?
Doctor :   yes thats correct
Doctor :   as for now the studies are going on in medical field
Doctor :   but i will assure you many children with type 1 diabetes will live a normal life s[an
Doctor :   span **
Doctor :   they just need to take control of the sugar levels
Doctor :   thru insulin and diet and exercise
User :   any other special care to be taken for him?
