User :   Dear Doctor/Chest Specialist,
I am 27 years old female and for the past 2 months have been suffering from a burning/shooting/pulling/squeezing sensation in my upper chest area from the muscles which connect to the middle area of the chest between the breasts and also a tingling/burning sensation in my breasts. the breast bone is also very tendar and painfull to touch on both sides and also underneath the breasts. Sometines the sternam hurts and i also feel a burning sensation in my upper left arm. If I am typing i can feel the strain on the middle of my chest. I also get a sharp pain sometimes radiating to my back on the shoulder blades. I also sometimes feel a tightness in my chest. These pains are always worse in the morning. I have had blood tests, ECG, Heart Scan, chest Xray and a spine X Ray which have come up clear. This is so painful! I am on dihdrocodiene, paracatamol and Amitriptline but the pain is not improving. I am very concerned and fear this may be chondrosarcoma or some type of bone cancer.
The pain tends to be worse in the cold, while i am sitting in the car, during high levels of stress and in the morning
If you are able to advise on any of the above that would be very much appreciated.
Kind Regards Emma4
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read the query
User :   Hi Dr
Doctor :   Please give me a couple of minutes
Doctor :   Yes I read through it
Doctor :   Let us discuss
User :   ok
Doctor :   Did it all start with fever or after any prolonged illness?
Doctor :   2 months back
User :   no
Doctor :   Is BP, Heart rate normal?
User :   i did have an on off pain on on the hand side - breast bone and a pain down my left arm which was on and off, yes ut has been normal, i have had 3 ekgs!
Doctor :   When does the pain improve or how does it improve?
Doctor :   Does winter increase the severity or frequency of pain?
User :   it does occur more in winter - it is just a constant pain sometimes it lessens at night but its always their - i have taken many painkillers but they dont seem to be helping
Doctor :   Does it vary with physical exercise or when you drive car or other daily activities?
Doctor :   Does the pain increase with inspiration of air?
User :   at the momment i havent been doing much exercie because of the pain - but it hurts if i am sitting in the car or if i am walking around alot or sitting in the sam position for longer. i f i push my chest out that hurts. The intensity of the pain tends to move to differenat spots around the chest area - it is quite distressing and i am very concerned!
User :   It does not increase with inspiration of Air
Doctor :   Did you get an ESR and CRP tests done?
Doctor :   They are included in your blood tests?
User :   if in motion the pain increases from the middle/sternam area upwards to the muscles connecting to the shoulders. yes these came back fine, i have had a heart scan and am awaiting the results of this
Doctor :   What was your first doctor's opinion?
Doctor :   do you notice a change in your sleep or appetite or weight?
User :   I am having diffficuly in sleeping - my doctor thinks it may be a trapped nerve or muscular but i am very concerned this may be something more serious as the pain killers are not helping
Doctor :   I would suggest a Rheumatological examination also
User :   the pain is hard to describe as sometimes its a pulling feeling or sometimes it is a burning sensation and other times it can feel like sharp pricks
Doctor :   Till then I would consider muscular
User :   it is also very difficult to pin point as the intensisty of the pain varys from differant areas
User :   I am also very worried this may be cancer related
Doctor :   The chances or cancer is very less at this age and with your set of symptoms
Doctor :   Rheumatologic or Fibromyalgia can be my ideas to you
User :   could it be possibly be chondrosarcoma? or another type of bone cancer? Des muscle pain last this long, could you suggest and alternive medications? this is all very depressing doctor!
Doctor :   I understand the pain you have now
Doctor :   Chondrosarcoma and other bone pain are the least possibility
Doctor :   Muscle pain in Fibromyalgias last for months and years
Doctor :   You can try for Acupuncture
User :   thanks for the information - would chondrosarcoma show up on a chest xray - this is what worries me! Are you able to advise of any other pain relive medices which also may work?
Doctor :   Yes it shows
Doctor :   I think you shoudl not be worried so much
Doctor :   You should more relaxing and that reduces the pain
Doctor :   Pain is partly psychological in your case as I feel
User :   i used to just have this pain on one side of the chest and now it is on both sides of my chest. I have tried so hard to relax but its so diffuult when you do no understand where the pain is coming from
Doctor :   Ask your doctor to get bone marrow biopsy
Doctor :   to rule that out even
Doctor :   if it can relax you
User :   i know they did a bone profile in my blood test - is this similar ?
Doctor :   No
Doctor :   Biopsy is different
Doctor :   You can now go and ask your doctor to rule out
Doctor :   Rheumatology, Fibromyalagia and Bone biopsy
User :   A bone biospy sounds quite serious!
Doctor :   The only thing that is left is that
Doctor :   But I do not necessarily suggest that but first rule out rheumatology
User :   would that be to rule out bone cancer?
Doctor :   eys
Doctor :   yes
User :   would this be from the bone where the pain is coming from?
Doctor :   yes
