User :   hello?
Doctor :   hi
User :   Hi, what kind of doctor are you?
Doctor :   I am a General Physician, I believe I can help
you within my expertise and If required I
shall recommend a specialist.
User :   okay, but first I want you to know that I'm not a cheap hypochondriac :) I'm actually an educated journalist, desperate for advice on my symptoms. Ready?
Doctor :   OK
User :   :)
User :   Last June (2010) I developed pain in my groin. My general doc thought I had pulled a muscle at the gym
Doctor :   I respect medicines. I follow Hippocrates's Oath
User :   But my GYN thought it might be a GYN issue, and she took me into the OR for a laparoscopy
Doctor :   ok
User :   Everything was fine with that, but she saw an inguinal hernia. A backup surgeon was called in, and he had to repair it 'open.'
User :   Apparently those type of hernias are rare in women.
Doctor :   ok
User :   Now, since then I've had lots of problems with GI issues
Doctor :   ......
Doctor :   like...
User :   I saw a GI doc, and ended up undergoing a colonoscopy (I'm only 38)
User :   The symptoms I had been having were bouts of painful diarrhea
Doctor :   OK
User :   The colonoscopy ruled out colities, crohn's, etc
Doctor :   ok
User :   so the GI doc is saying I have IBS-D
Doctor :   ok
User :   Yet in between bouts, I am perfectly fine, with normal bowel movements
Doctor :   ok
User :   I've got new symptoms now, in the last month
Doctor :   what>?
User :   Sometimes, about four times now, I get a "band" of pain around my ribcage
User :   so the GI doc has now ordered tests for my gallbladder
User :   I've also gained about 18 pounds since last June, which is UNUSUAL for me
Doctor :   ok
User :   I haven't been working out but I'm not eating poorly, never have
User :   I'm 5'3", currently 130 pounds
User :   usually I'm approximately 115
User :   It's really depressing
User :   so anyway
User :   I haven't been 'normal' since the hernia repair
User :   bowel issues, rib pain, weight gain
User :   COULD these problems be related????
Doctor :   was the gall dladder normal?
User :   I will be having two tests next week: an ultrasound and a HIDA (not sure that's what it's called)
User :   But I felt the GI doctor wasn't listening to me about my weight concerns
User :   he said the IBS symptoms would not be related to gallbladder issues anyway
User :   but I'm not sure that's true...?
Doctor :   Because of the abdomial surgery, you were on bed rest. You burned less calories. and started weight gain
Doctor :   When the colonoscopy is normal they called diarrhoea as IBD
Doctor :   But it could be from Gall bladder problems
User :   That much, that quickly?????? maybe so. but could the symptoms be related to gallbladder problems? I know I have the tests coming, and should wait ti see, but I'm worried I'm not being taken 'seriously'
Doctor :   Yes
User :   Exactly. the colonoscopy ruled out other stuff, so the diagnosis is IBD
Doctor :   All thee problems might be going simultaneously and you r handling one by one
User :   really? all of the symptoms could be related to my gallbladder...? I get this gnawing sensation under my right rib cage. The bands of pain thing has happened about three times. In fact there was so much 'pressure' i wondered if it was some kind of of heart issue :)
Doctor :   Loss of appetite is common in gall bladder problems
User :   well, that
User :   oops
User :   that's the thing
User :   appetite is normal
User :   but I watch what I eat
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   and let us ee the results
User :   that doesn't make sense!
User :   Who else gets diarrhea attacks once a week but still gains weight????
Doctor :   the ""band"" like pain may be from Gall bladder
User :   I'm petite. I have never weighed this much except when I was pregnant!
User :   What should I be asking about?
User :   I don't think the GI doc was too interested in the weight gain, but I suppose that's not really his area of expertise
Doctor :   please slow down
User :   sorry (I type fast. It's the journalist in me)
Doctor :   weight gain in ut case has lot of medical, surgical and emotional facorts
Doctor :   You dealt some issies-,medical and surgical
Doctor :   and you r pursuing some
Doctor :   My best recoemmendation for weight gain: eat small portions
Doctor :   east less cheesy, oily items
Doctor :   exercise daily min for 30 min

Doctor :   You can learn stress relaxations tecjnoques
Doctor :   1. Do yoga
Doctor :   2. breathing exercises
Doctor :   3. DO meditation
User :   okay, so you're saying that gallbladder disfunction can create IBS symptoms?
Doctor :   4. listen to music
User :   This is not about stress control
Doctor :   Yes
User :   THAT it what upsets me
User :   It's NOT STRESS
User :   something is wrong with me
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   there could be other causes from gall bladder
Doctor :   wait and see the results
User :   are the tests going to show what's going on, or will it be inconclusive?
User :   I want answers. I'm not well, and I firmly believe there is a physical reason for it, not psychological
Doctor :   i agree
Doctor :   But by I pray God that
Doctor :   no one should have any kidney, heart, lung problem
Doctor :   like that I pray God you should not have a physical problem
Doctor :   I pray God u should not go thru surgeries and many tetsts anay more
Doctor :   Some times some tets show only diseaseas
Doctor :   but if they are normal we can not create disease
Doctor :   But still problem exist
Doctor :   I am not saying you are physchologically creating
User :   bottom line: Can gallbladder disease cause WEIGHT GAIN and IBS symptoms?
Doctor :   I trust u that u have the problem
Doctor :   That is why u had gone thru all these
Doctor :   but there are some GUT diseases, called functional disorders
Doctor :   WThese functional disorders have no specific tetsts
Doctor :   When the other tets says normal, then we call it a functional diorder
Doctor :   Hope u understand
Doctor :   Did u?
User :   can gallbladder issues cause weight gain?
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   It could be reverse also
User :   is it possible, then, that all of these symptoms are related?
User :   or do I need to have thyroid tests etc?
Doctor :   Over weight people has gall bladder probelm
Doctor :   This is is more common in white females
User :   but i'm not, or wasn't, overweight, ever
User :   I am a white female
Doctor :   See
Doctor :   I am not infront of u
Doctor :   U said u r gaining weight
Doctor :   that is why I said over weight
Doctor :   Sorry
Doctor :   do I need to have thyroid tests etc?
User :   yep. I told the GI doc yesterday that if he could have just seen me one year ago,
User :   he would see what I am normally like
User :   I am not fat, lazy, overeater
Doctor :   Ok
User :   The weigght gain is in my middle
User :   tummy, waist
Doctor :   Get the thyroid functions test done
Doctor :   Very good

User :   what do I ask for? In terms of thyroid? I have heard the 'regular' tests are not sensitive enough
