User :   i went to the er sunday because of severe pain in my r ear. my balance was off and the pain was unbearable. the er doctor said i had fluid buildup. she gave me a shot of antibiotics and a shot of morphine for the pain. i felt better after that, but today i begain to have the same symptoms, only worse. the pain in intolerable and i am having trouble hearing, any wind in my ear causes immense pain and i am getting dizzy spells without any warning. i have to hold onto the hall walls because my balance is off bad. i am experiencing vertigo more and more. i am 45, female and live alone. please help me.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   Your description is consistent with fluid accumulating in the middle ear
Doctor :   IT is causing pressure in the middle ear
Doctor :   and thus pain
User :   what do you suggest i do
Doctor :   As per the ER description, The immediate way of solving your problem is a grommet insertion in the tympanic membrane to release the fluid and release the pressure building
Doctor :   This is only done by ENT surgeon
User :   my doctor is out for the holidays. should i return to the er
Doctor :   Antibiotics will not help further
Doctor :   You can go to Er and ask for ENT consultation
User :   what about for the pain? it is so severe i will have to get someone to drive me
User :   can they keep me in the hosp for pain control until i can get a ent consulation
Doctor :   Yes
Doctor :   They can keep in the hospital and give the pain control
Doctor :   You can call 911
Doctor :   so that they can pick you
User :   should i ask them that, will they think i am crazy or just wanting drugs? my sister is with me so she can take me. no need for 911
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   YOu should ask for
Doctor :   and you can take the details of the previous ER consult
Doctor :   what did the doctor say about the fluid in the ear
User :   i used a q tip because it felt wet and got blood on the qtip. the dr was very nice and very concerned.
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   I think there is a severe infection in the ear
Doctor :   This problem can be solved if timely treatment is given
User :   thank you very much. the pain is so severe for what seems like such a minor thing. what will they do for me in the hospital as i doubt they will be able to set up an apt with whoever does the ent until after the holidays
Doctor :   There will be certain ENT's who work during the holidays
Doctor :   Certainly they can set up one
User :   again what will they do for pain control in hosp
User :   scared of ivs
Doctor :   The pain keeps occuring if some one can intervene and put a grommet in the TM, then the fluid drains out
Doctor :   For now till the ENT does it, they give you pain killers
Doctor :   I am surprized why the previous ER physician has not referred you instant to ENT
User :   ok, thank you very much for your advice. the er doc told me to go to my doc the next day but as i said he's out until after holidays
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Did you follow how you should go from here
Doctor :   Do you have any more questions
User :   onemore will this spread to both ears
Doctor :   Not often
User :   k then, no sir, no more questions. thank you so much
Doctor :   Pleasure here too
Doctor :   Bye for now
User :   merry christmas to you and yours
Doctor :   Thank you and same to you
