I have recently been diagnoed with prostatitis. I have frequent urinaton and not getting erections during the day. This has been going on for 3 weeks now. I have been tested for std's, uti's, blood work, urinalysis, etc. All negative. However, I have been on Doxycycline for 3 months due to Lyme disease. Am concerned that i have something but doxy is having effect on tests. Have read about ureaplasma and mycoplasma that infect prostate? Please help.
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   let me read your query

User :   Im 39 is it possible to have ureaplasma and mycoplasma in prostate w/o burning or discharge
Doctor :   yes
User :   Would n't I exhibit any other symptoms in my urethra before it got to prostate
Doctor :   these can cause a nonspecific prostatitis, which can cause a chronic infection
User :   how does urologist test and treat this
Doctor :   he does a prostrate massage, express the secretions and test it microscopically
User :   should he do this no matter what to find out why my prostate is enlarged also primary care doctor just put me in cipro possible infection in prostate
Doctor :   yes the test if done will help to give a definitive diagnosis
User :   what about cipro will that help
Doctor :   yes , it will help to some extent
Doctor :   but the possibility of a persistant infection lingers around, if there is resistance to cipro
User :   what else needs to be done
Doctor :   if a test is done and culture is done, then specific antibiotics can be helpful to clear the infection
User :   can you get this myco... or urea... from giving anal sex to a female unprotected
Doctor :   YES, definitely
User :   will antibiotic i'm on interfere with tests done by urologists
Doctor :   no not at all
User :   if I wasalready tested for std's through urinalysis and swab of penis and came back negative could i hace still have ureaplasma and mycoplasma
Doctor :   yes,
Doctor :   if the location of infection is in the prostrate, the urine can be clear
User :   Also I was in hot tub for a couple of days and had sex with my girl who got yeast infection could this be cause of enlarged prostate
Doctor :   having sex in bathtub can cause urinary infections
Doctor :   but this if if enters the prostrate, it can cause enlargement
