User :   I can see theback of my arm pulsing and there is a roaring sound in my ears that keep me awake at night. What causes this?
Doctor :   hello
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender please ?
User :   I can see the back of my arm pulsing and I also have a roaring sound in my ears that I only hear at night when I'm trying to sleep... are these related? I am a 60 year old female.
Doctor :   do you have any other medical problem ?
Doctor :   high blood pressure or diabetes ?
User :   My blood pressure was 136/86 on the 28th. I am on medication for this.
Doctor :   ok so that roaring sensation you are having in your ears is called as tinnitus
Doctor :   Tinnitus is not a disease in itself but rather a reflection of something else that is going on in the hearing system
Doctor :   the most common cause for tinnitus is hearing loss. As we age, or because of trauma to the ear (through noise, drugs, or chemicals), the portion of the ear that allows us to hear, the cochlea, becomes damaged.
User :   How is it treated?
Doctor :   A complete hearing test (audiogram) will be performed. Depending on the type of tinnitus, either a special audiogram known as an auditory brainstem response (ABR) or a brain scan such as a computerized tomography (CT) scan or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) may also be required.
Doctor :   In the majority of cases, tinnitus is caused by damage to the hearing organ. In these cases, there is normally no need for treatment other than reassurance that the tinnitus is not being caused by another treatable illness.
Doctor :   but you do need to see a ENT physician
User :   I didn't start experiencing this roaring sound until a few weeks ago when I caught a cold.
Doctor :   it happenes every night
Doctor :   ?
User :   I noticed after taking some Tylnol Cold medicine. Yes, every night since the medication was taken.
Doctor :   you should stop taking it
Doctor :   and also you need evaluation from the ENT physician
User :   I did, right away, and even threw what was left away. What about the pulsing in my arm that I can see. I will make an appointment tomorrow with my doctor.
Doctor :   it can be due to the hypertension
Doctor :   since when you have noticed this pulsation ?
User :   I just noticed that a couple of days ago, but I wake up every morning with a headache.
Doctor :   like i said CT and MRI will help us as the symptoms can be all connected
User :   Thank you so next move will be to contact my doctor tomorrow morning. I've been putting it off because I didn't want to hear any bad news...I know that sounds crazy.
Doctor :   i can understand your concern
Doctor :   well dont worry
Doctor :   you take care of your self
Doctor :   thank you for consulting me
Doctor :   you have a wonderful day
User :   Thank you...good bye, you were very helpful.
Doctor :   your welcome
Doctor :   good bye
