User :   Hi. I have a cold/cough and someone recommended mucniex, how exactly does Mucinex work?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   mucinex is a medication that dissolves secretions that are very thick
Doctor :   these secretions can then be coughed out easily
User :   So will it help me sleep at night?
Doctor :   when thick secretions are produced either due to infection or due to allergy, they stick to the throat and cause more irritation and cough
Doctor :   so taking this medication will definitely help
Doctor :   and help you sleep as well
User :   Okay. Another unrelated question is I have constant headaches almost everyday. I don't think I'm that stressed, what do you think would cause this and what steps can I take to avoid headaches?
Doctor :   in addition, for reducing cough, you can take tussen-DM cough lozenges 3-4 times daily
User :   Okay, thanks for the suggestion.
Doctor :   how long have you had the headaches ?
User :   For weeks. It's been a while
Doctor :   In case all the symptoms came together, the headache could be due to the cold / sinusitis
Doctor :   in case the headahce has persisted for a while, as u just mentioned, take some aspirin or tylenol for pain relief
User :   Is there anything I can to avoid headaches long term besides just taking aspirin or tylenol?
Doctor :   can u tell any situation that brings on the headache ?
User :   It usually happens toward the end of the day, but I'm not particuly stressed. I don't know if this is connected but I typically get about 8-9 hours of sleep and by the end of the day I'm exhausted.
Doctor :   this headache is due to fatigue , as it occurs at the end of the day
User :   What can I do to reduce fatigue. I get enough sleep and I wake up feeling rested. Then toward the end of the day I'm exhausted. I
Doctor :   though mentally you may not feel stressed, but physical exhaustion can present as headache
Doctor :   you need to try and delegate your responsibilites to others if possible,
Doctor :   and take some breaks in between the work for 10-15 min to do some stretching exercises
Doctor :   and breathing exercises to freshen your body
User :   So there's nothing I should be concerned about by means of my health if I am getting headaches every day due to fatigue? Of
User :   Or is this just related to physical fatigue.
Doctor :   may i know your age ?
User :   20. I'm a student.
Doctor :   you might also get yourself checked for conditions such as high BLOOD pressure as well
Doctor :   ok .
Doctor :   in that case, there is nothing else to be worried about
Doctor :   all this is physical fatigue
User :   Okay. Thanks very much for your suggestions.
Doctor :   you can take some vitamin B capsules and good nourishment, have a good dietary habits
Doctor :   this will help to overcome your issues
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   take care and bye for now
Doctor :   are u there ?
User :   Yes.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   Do u have any other query ?
User :   one moment while i type the question
Doctor :   we have about less than a minute
Doctor :   do u have a phone no
Doctor :   where we can call you if needed
Doctor :   hello are you there ?
User :   Yes, I had to recharge the account. I'm not available by phone at the moment. My question was whenever I wake up sometimes, after 10 hours of sleep I'm still tired. This would happen after several 8-9 hours of sleep the nights proceeding it.
Doctor :   how long have you had this ?
Doctor :   are you currently on any medications ?
User :   I'm not sure, I've started to notice it more and more now though. I am on no medications.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   fatigue can be due to few reasons
Doctor :   1. stress, physical or mental
Doctor :   2. anemia due to a low HB
Doctor :   3. HYPOTHYROIDISM, low thyroid status
Doctor :   4. lack of proper nutrition
Doctor :   5. lack of refreshed sleep, due to sleep apnea, etc
Doctor :   these are the main causes of fatigue, lethargy in a young individual
User :   Okay, is there particular vitamens I should be taking?
User :   *vitamins?
Doctor :   presence of recent infections like a flu, cold etc can also cause fatigue
Doctor :   vitamin Bcomplex containing a group of 7-`10 vitamins would be good
Doctor :   in addition to vitamin E capsules too
Doctor :   you have to have good nourishing diet too,
Doctor :   missing meals and intake of alcohol can cause similar symptoms too
User :   and how many of those (for a 20 year old), should I take per day for each of the vitamins?
Doctor :   once a day is enough
User :   when you said "B complex containing a group of 7-10 vitamins", what is 7-10?
Doctor :   each pill contains the daily requirement in it ., so one a day is good
Doctor :   vitamin b1, b2, b3, b6 , b12, folic acid, etc
Doctor :   these are a group of vitamins , that are called as vitmin B complex together e
User :   so a vitamin Bcomplex pill would contain all of those vitamins (b1, b2, b3, b6 , b12, folic acid, etc )?
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   that is right
User :   What does vitamin B and E exactly do and help with? Explain each.
Doctor :   vit B - involved in carbohydrate metabolism as a catalyst in many cellular reactions
Doctor :   vitamin E - is an antioxidant , that helps in preventing cellular damage during cell metabolism
User :   What benefit does each have on the body though?
Doctor :   each of the vitamin B - HAS several functions as a coenzyme in different reactions
Doctor :   absence of such coenzymes can inhibit cellular metabolism and cause cell damage, lack of cell development
Doctor :   deficincey can cause various conditions like beri beri, pellagra, anemia, red cell depletion, etc
Doctor :   most of these enzymes and vitamins are involved in brain function and cellular replication
Doctor :   so lack of these can affect most organs like the skin, brain, heart, and so on
Doctor :   eg vit b1 def can cause wernickes encephalopathy , that involves the brain
Doctor :   vit B3 deficiency causes pellagra, that causes skin rash, dermatitis, dementia, etc
Doctor :   thiamine deficceny causes beri beri that can cause neuropathy as well as cardiac enlargement and failure
User :   Okay, I understand. Thanks for your suggestions, they were very helpful. That's all I needed clarification on for now. Have a great afternoon.
Doctor :   you too
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   have a good day, thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   bye for now
