User :   Hi, my right ear is blocked on and off for the last two weeks since i recovered from a cold. I would like to know how I can cure it - prefer not to take antibiotics

User :   I am 40M
Doctor :   Do you have nasal congestion, fever?
User :   no, I had nasal congestion and fever when I was suffering from a viral about 3-4 weeks ago
Doctor :   Do you have pain in the ear, ear discharge, ringing sensation in the ear, hearing difficulties?
User :   right now, i don't have any congestion
User :   no, just blocked ear on and off

Doctor :   Do they occur spontaneously or does the feeling of blocking occur following an episode such as
Doctor :   of yawning or swallowing?
User :   it occurs when I bend or move my head in a certain direction

User :   just my ear becomes blocked for some time, thats all

User :   ever since I had a cold
User :   i took a flight to mumbai and had a lot of pain in my ear

User :   (this was when I was suffering from the cold)

Doctor :   Feeling of blocking sensation in the ear occurs due to pressure changes inside the ear.
Doctor :   probably due to the recovering inflammation in the middle ear or the euastachian tube.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Its a benign conditions and will slowly improve.
User :   is there something I can do to expedite recovery
User :   its already been a long time since I recovered from the cold and the blocked ear problem is not going awat

Doctor :   1. There is a technique described as valsalva maneuvre that helps in maintaining the pressure changes.
Doctor :   Few of the common techniques are chewing a bubble gum or blowing your mouth with closed nostrils and mouse.
User :   If the valsalva method is about closing your nose and blowing out, I do that every time my ear gets blocked for a long time
User :   in fact i did that when i had pain on the flight
User :   and it helped me unblock my ear and also with the pain
Doctor :   2. Antihistaminic medications such as benadryl syrup one teaspoon twice a day.
User :   ok, I can try that
User :   i am running out of time
