User :   Hi There! just last week I went for a regular check up to find out my blood pressure was high, my blood test have also revealed my iron is low (5) would these two things be connected in anyway?
Doctor :   hello
Doctor :   may i know your age and gender please
User :   Hello
User :   I'm 35 and female
Doctor :   can u tell me the reading of your blood pressure?
User :   It was 150/99
Doctor :   was this the first time you have had such reading ?
User :   Yes this was the first time
Doctor :   and this was last week right ?
User :   Correct
Doctor :   ok to begin with to diagnose some oneone with a high blood pressure we will take minimum of 3 reading in a interval of 1 week apart
Doctor :   then only a diagnose can be made that you are actually having hypertension
Doctor :   low iron is a factor that can contribute to the increase in the blood pressure
User :   I'm due to go back to my Dr again tomorrow, how long will it take for the liquid iron I'm taking to have and impact?
Doctor :   it will take minimum of 1- 2 weeks for the body to start responding to the iron supplements
Doctor :   how much coffee do you consume ?
User :   Up until a week about 4-5 cups a day (except for week-ends)
Doctor :   ok, you need to cut down on your caffeine intake and tray substituting with tea instead
User :   will do, anything else I should be doing besides taking iron, increasing exercise and lower salt?
User :   and lower coffee intake...
Doctor :   sure will tell you all you can do to get your blood pressure down
Doctor :   avoid a diet rich in salt
Doctor :   follow a well-balanced routine of a proper diet, exercise, and rest. Diet is of primary importance. Meat and eggs, more than any other food, cause the blood pressure to rise. The pressure can be lowered and blood clotting diminished by increasing the consumption of fruits, reducing protein intake
User :   and avoid stress I guess...
Doctor :   like i said Salt should be avoided; in any case, it should not exceed more than three grams or about half a teaspoon per day
Doctor :   Raw vegetable juices, especially carrot and spinach juices, taken separately or in combination, are also beneficial in the treatment of high blood pressure
Doctor :   Excessive alcohol consumption is also known to raise blood pressure levels, particularly in those sensitive to alcohol.
Doctor :   yes you are correct. The relationship between stress and high blood pressure cannot be understated and its contribution to increased incidence of the condition in modern society is undeniable.
Doctor :   with just proper diet and exercise you can control. and you need 2 more readings for you to be diagnosed with hypertension
Doctor :   and keep on taking the iron supplements
User :   ok, thank you for your help
Doctor :   our most welcome
Doctor :   your**
Doctor :   take care of your self
