Is it normal for a twelve year old to have her peiod teice in one month?
Doctor : Hi
Doctor : let me read your query
User : Hi I meant twice in one month
Doctor : Usually in the initial period , once a girl starts to have her periods, they are very irregular
Doctor : so 2 periods within one cycle is usually nothing to be concerned about
Doctor : the first few cycles are usually anovulatory, meaning, there is no actual ovulation
User : Well she has had regular periods for about 7 months now, but her last one was on Jan. 30th and was light and then one today
Doctor : since the hormonal levels are very abnormal during this period, and do change, regularly, there is nothing to be concerned about
Doctor : can u tell me the no of days she had bleeding each time ?
User : Ok. Makes sense. But should I notify her doctor?
Doctor : you can intimate her, but she will defintiely provide reassurance
User : Yes, on the 30th it was four days. She normal had a 7day cycle.
Doctor : ok , that is fine , the initial period was of a shorter duration in that case
User : Yes.
User : When we go to her doctor he asks if she has a period once a month, was wondering why the question?
User : And he always clarifies not twice in one month.
Doctor : that was just to make sure, that she is having regular periods or noy
Doctor : ** not
Doctor : coz, he is thinking of excess bleeding that can cause anemia
Doctor : he is just checking up
Doctor : a single episode of 2 periods is nothign to be worried about
User : Ok, I asked my daughter if she was tired. She said no.
Doctor : but regularly occurance of 2 periods in a month has to be checked
User : Ok thank you Dr. I feel better now, it's funny how you forget what you went through when you we a teenager..
Doctor : yes, i do understand, as it is a very long time back
Doctor : and we do get concerned when it is about our kids
Doctor : thats human nature
User : Yes, very true. If it continues to be a regularly occurance, why would that happen? She is a competitive dancer does stress do that.
Doctor : sometimes yes
Doctor : exams, stressful infections, competition stress can all cause changes in periods
User : Hmm. I will keep that in mind. Great, one more thing to worry about. Thank you
Doctor : you are most welcome
Doctor : take care and have a good day
User : You too!!
