Doctor :   hI
Doctor :   I am Dr. XXXXXXXX
User :   Hello
Doctor :   Please type your query
User :   About 2 weeks ago I noticed a lot of pressure in my right ear along with swelling in the glands under my jaw(right side only). I saw a doctor who put me on Amox-Clav. After about a week I noticed no difference. When I returned to my Doctor, he then put me on Cephalexin and Prednisone. He told me that my ears were not draining properly and this should help. I am on the last day of my medication today and there has been only a slight improvement. Is this something that could just take longer, or should I make another appointment?
Doctor :   Let me read the query
Doctor :   Please give me some time
Doctor :   If your primary feels that this is ear related he should refer you to a ENT specialist. The reasons are
Doctor :   1) The medications that you were put on are good enough
Doctor :   2) They can help treat any kind of infection in the ear
Doctor :   by this long duration
Doctor :   The most common reason that he thinks is a otitis media
Doctor :   If the medication is not improving on , the next thing is grommet insertion in the Tympanic membrane
Doctor :   which is done easily by an ENT ( Otologist)
Doctor :   WIth the insertion your pain reduces within a day or two , if your primary's reason is correct saying that the ear is not draining well
Doctor :   Did you follow?
Doctor :   Are you with me?
User :   Yes, thank you. I was also concerned about the gland on the right side of my face. It has gone down since the first visit, but I can still feel it slightly swollen. Is this something that would be caused by my ear issue?
User :   I feel great and have had no other symptoms.
Doctor :   Did yoiu notice the swelling of the gland first or the pressure in the ear ?
User :   The gland one day, then the ear the next morning.
Doctor :   Is the swelling soft or firm or hard?
Doctor :   Ok,
User :   Soft
Doctor :   IF the drainage is not proper in the ear, yes there is a possibility of appearance of swelling like what you have
Doctor :   As the floor of middle ear is supported by a bone which can be protruded out as a swelling
Doctor :   since there is not enough space
User :   Ok
Doctor :   Did you follow?
User :   Yes, thank you. I was just getting worried that this was something serious, and wanted to get another opinion.
Doctor :   This condition is not serious though
Doctor :   but needs early treatment as you had
Doctor :   Is there anything that I can help you with?
User :   Would it be safe to wait until Monday and see how it all feels before seeing an ENT?
Doctor :   YOu can wait unless you have severe pain
User :   Ok, thank you.
User :   That's all I wanted to discuss.
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me
Doctor :   Bye for now
User :   Bye
