User:hi doctor..just wanted to understand a bit more about varicose veins
User:my wife is pregnant and has developed the same
Doctor:ok, please proceed, what exactly u want to know about them
User:what can be the possible complications if any because of the same
Doctor:may i know how many weeks she is ?
User:this is her second pregnancy
User:19 weeks 6 days
Doctor:how long has she had them ? i mean when did the veins present ?
Doctor:has your doctor confirmed them to be varicose veins ?
User:about 1 month now and today the doctor said that they are significant
Doctor:usually, with the high estrogen levels , in the blood, as well as the increased blood circulation, the veins can get predominant
Doctor:in addition, increased pressure on the pelvic veins , due to the enlarged uterus can cause stagnation of blood in the lower limb veins , resulting in large veins
Doctor:there is no need to panic
User:ok what is it that we need to take care of
User:does it have any longterm affects and any impact on the child
Doctor:there is no effect on the child
Doctor:use of varicose stockings and also limb elevation will help to control the symptoms
User:so would it normally subside after the delivery
Doctor:yes, in most cases, it does subside
User:thanks ..just got a bit concerned as my wife's doctor told her that it might affect her health and has also recommended color doppler test ..any thoughts ?
Doctor:make sure, that she does not gain weight , later on
Doctor:yes, a doppler test can be done to check it there is any major venous value defects
Doctor:I mean Valve defects general she is very health concious and does regular exercises ..walks,yoga etc. Can she continue with the same or any recommendations
Doctor:yes, she can continue with the same at this time
Doctor:no need for anything else
User:additionally would car driving compound the problem
Doctor:but once delivery occurs, regular exercises, should be done
Doctor:no ,car driving will not cause any issues for the veins
User:ok thanks doctor...
Doctor:but long distance driving should be avoided, as this will cause more pressure on the veins
Doctor:You are welcome
User:good night
Doctor:thanks and same to u
Doctor:bye for now
