My wife is 8 week pregnant. I have the following questions
1 Can she drive four wheeler and go for work.
2 she works in MNC can she continue working.
3 Please let me know the general precautions and food she should take for healthy preganancy.

Doctor:Dr XXXXXXX here
User:Hi doctor
User:hope you are doing good
User:my wife is 9 month pregnant
Doctor:I am doing fine, thank you.
User:and she has developed love for sweet foods
User:even with chapati she wants to have it with sugar
User:will it affect the baby and will she turn diabetic due to her new found love for sugar
User:any remediation please?
Doctor:First congrats.
Doctor:Let me answer your queries one by one.
Doctor:Food cravings for a particular food is common symptom of pregnancy.
Doctor:This occurs due to physiological changes induced by hormones.
Doctor:Let me assure you that a person doesn't become diabetic by just eating more sugars
Doctor:unless there is an preexisting factor such as genes which increases chances of diabetes.
Doctor:So if her blood sugars are normal in the past, there is less chances that your wife will turn diabetes now.
User:yes it was normal in past (below 100)
Doctor:Besides, your gynecologist can get her blood sugars monitored frequently to make sure sugars are within normal.
Doctor:If at all any disturbances in her blood report is found, we can then take appropriate action then.
Doctor:2. Regarding travel.
Doctor:It is preferable to avoid long distance travel especially during early pregnancy (upto 12 weeks)
Doctor:If the travel is a short distance and the route of travel is smooth,
Doctor:there should not be any untoward incidences.
Doctor:3. It is preferable to have bed rest especially during the first 3 months and last 3 months of pregnancy.
Doctor:By bed rest, I meant avoiding excessive physical labour, strenuous physical activities
Doctor:Mild physical exercises is fine.
User:ok undesrtaood
Doctor:So if her work does not involve lot of physical and mental pressures,
Doctor:she may choose to work till mid half or late part of pregnancy.
Doctor:However it is essential to take care of herself
User:she is s/w engineer so obviously she will have mental pressure
Doctor:and report to a doctor whenever any unusual symptom occur.
User:one last silly question yesterday she lifted bucket full of water (around 10-12 liters)
User:she experianced some pain, which went away by evening
User:can there be any side affect of it?
Doctor:If the work involves excessive stress which your wife is not used to, then she may practice de stressing measures such as deep breathing exercise, brief early morning walks and meditation.
Doctor:Avoid yoga posses and any other exercise that involves bending and lifting.
Doctor:The lower abdominal pain
Doctor:experienced on that occasion is probably benign.
Doctor:It is common to have some abdominal cramps during pregnancy especially during the initial stages.
Doctor:As long as the pain is not severe and there is no associated bleeding, it is mostly normal.
User:but she actually lifted bucket full of water
User:that made me concerned as lifiting should had been avoided
Doctor:But as I mentioned earlier, it is better to report any unusual symptoms during pregnancy to your doctor.
Doctor:Yes, lifting is to be avoided during pregnancy.
Doctor:But you need not worry.
User:unfortunately my doctor is very busy
Doctor:The event is most likely to be minor, sinister event.
User:it is very difficult to contact her
User:sometime I feel helpless
Doctor:Don't worry.
User:even getting appointement is tough (nearly 20 days waiting)
Doctor:We at XXXXXXX should be able to help you any time.
User:ok thanks :)
Doctor:You may report to us any problem which you face during the pregnancy.
Doctor:We may be able to triage the events and refer you to the gynecologist as and when requried.
Doctor:Hope I have addressed all your current concerns.
Doctor:Do you have any other query?
User:yes you have answered all my concerns
User:thanks a lot
User:have a good day ahead
