User:Hi Doctor
User:My wife is currently one and half months pregnant now and we had a complete blood test and ultrasound scan as per the doctors suggestion.
User:All the results was normal expect the TSH
User:Value for TSH was 34.28 (as against 0.30-5.5 normal range )
User:As the TSH was ver high our doctor has suggested to go for the TSH test again in a separate lab also she has suggested to go for FT3 & FT4 tests
User:This time the TSH value was 53.81.(Note:- method used for both times for this test was CLIA)
Doctor:These values suggest that she is suffering from hypothyroidism
User:and FT3 was 3.33 and FT4 was 0.81(both these seems to be fall in normal range).
Doctor:T3 and T4 need not have to be elevated but we can be sure that she has hypothyroidism based on repeated TSH levels. It definitely needs to be addressed particularly during pregnancy.
Doctor:Otherwise, the fetus may be affected.
User:our doctor has suggested us to XXXXXXX a endocronologist and also said there may be a chances of miscarraiage in pregnancy and problem with IQ for the child as the TSH level is very high.
User:our doctor has suggested us to XXXXXXX a endocronologist and also said there may be a chances of miscarraiage in pregnancy and problem with IQ for the child as the TSH level is very high.
Doctor:Yes, there is chance ONLY IF NOT TREATED appropriately by Endocrinologist
Doctor:Did you follow what I said? Please get back to me in case of doubts.
User:Actually, we went to the Endocronologista and she has performed Thyroid ultra sound and Anti TPO antibodies tests both came out to be a normal
Doctor:What else did she say?
User:the doctor suggested us to go for abortion as once the TSH is under control after medication and then we can plan for pregnancy again
User:OUR QUESTION is taking the treatment for thyroid can we goahead with pregnacy and how the child will be impacted/
Doctor:Ok. That is sad and I am sorry for that
Doctor:Ok. This is a very good question
Doctor:The fetus NOW would have already been effected and the endocrinologist would have suspected the same and have advised in that way
User:Is this is the normal in this kind of problem?
Doctor:However, for the coming pregnancy that you are planning, it would not be a big problem since the diagnosis is already made and she starts treating you for possible hypothyroidism keepin the hormone levels normal
Doctor:Yes this is a very common problem in this age group females
Doctor:And can be treated easily
Doctor:I can reassure you about the coming pregnancy but the present pregnancy has to be decided by that endocrinologist
Doctor:Did you follow what I said? Please get back to me in case of doubts.
User:Yes Doctor.
User:Currently she is taking THYRONORM 100mcg according to doctors advice . is that fine?
Doctor:Should be fine but I cannot decide or comment on treatment as I did not do physical examination
Doctor:The prescription medicines are given after the cause is exactly made out. Since I haven’t physically examined you, it is inappropriate and unethical to prescribe you scheduled drugs. Hence see the doctor for the medicine that you require.
User:yeah i totallu agree with you
User:this is one of the toughest decision i had to make in my life...
User:Thank you for all your inputs
Doctor: XXXXXXX I am not sure why you are so worried? Is this because of present pregnacy or the coming one?
User:because of going to abortion in current situation and also for the future prgnancy..
Doctor:I already told you that I can reassure you about the coming pregnancy, if the treatment is strictly followed under the guidance of Endocrinologist. So there is no need to worry at all.
User:because If i am not wrong my wife has to be in medication for thyroid problem through out her life
Doctor:There are crores of people who suffer from Hypothyroidism and would be on the same medication for their lifetime. It is so common. So, please do not worry about it at all
Doctor:Particularly, in this age group. I am sure one out of her 10 her would have this problem
Doctor:1 out of her 10 friends, I meant
User:Thank you for all the good inputs you had given doctor Vasanth
Doctor:Is there any thing else I can help you with?
Doctor:Thanks for consulting.Bye for now.
User:Bye Doctor
User:Thank you once again...
