User :   i am currently 8 weeks pregnant,i had an abdominal ultrasound yesterday as my breasts have decreased in size and becoming less painful, the gestational measured 18.8mm and contained a yolk sac,the temporary early pregnancy nurse(covering as more experienced was off) could not make out a fetal pole as she said i had not filled my bladder enough, and told me to return in 1 week,do these measurments sound right and the contents of the sac for 8 weeks in gestation?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :
Doctor :   let me read your query
Doctor :   yes
Doctor :   the findings are normal
User :   yes what?
Doctor :   the findings of the ultrasound are completely normal and according to the gestational age
User :   should a fetus and fetal heart be detectable at 8 weeks??and i thought the sac should grow at a rate of 1mm per day from 4 weeks??are u gynae/obs experienced?
Doctor :   yes the fetal heart is detected within 4-5 weeks of pregnancy
Doctor :   An ultrasound done at 8 weeks stage should show a fluttering heartbeat.
User :   so how were the findings normal if it wasnt detected on my scan at 8 weeks?
Doctor :   And yes i am experienced in OB/GYN
Doctor :   some times, the changes cannot be detected by a ultrasound due to changed position and continuous floating embryo
User :   is there a poss that it could hav been missed if my bladder wasnt full enough for a clear picture?
Doctor :   yes, that is absolutely true
Doctor :   a uterus is still a pelvic organ at 8 weeks
Doctor :   and is behind the bladder
Doctor :   so if the bladder is not filled, the uterus is not elevated and cannot be visualised properly
User :   so there is still hope for me!!!just a week of not knowing is mind boggling!and its normal to still be seeing the yolk sacat 8 weeks?
Doctor :   yes , is is absolutely normal findings in your case
Doctor :   i mean in all cases, at 8 weeks
Doctor :   Are you there ?
Doctor :   I hope all your doubts have been cleared
User :   yes just wondering if the sac should measure bigger at this stage,i had an ealry dating on 28th jan and it showed the sac at 11.6mm with no yolk sac visible and yest 17th feb at 18.8mm with a yolk sac is this enough progress in grwth of gest sac in that amount of time
Doctor :   No the size of the embryo is normal
Doctor :   and there is no need to doubt about that
Doctor :   the actual increase in size occurs in the 2nd trimester
User :   no the size of the gestational sac im talking about
Doctor :   i am referring to the same
User :   ok thank u very much for ur time
Doctor :   both the gest sac and the embryo have a perfect ratio
Doctor :   and the growth of each increases at a exact ratio
Doctor :   you need not worry at all
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   take care and bye for now
Doctor :   have a great day
Doctor :   bye for now
