User :   i was sick with a very bad cold 7 weeks ago

User :   coughing every few minutes, runny nose..phlegm..

User :   definitely not coughing as much as i was when i was sick...

Doctor :   it seems that you are now having a post infectious cough

User :   how long does this last for?
Doctor :   Usually once a infection subsides the residual inflammation of the airway causes persistent cough, this is called post infectious bronchitis
Doctor :   The main symptoms here are dry, cough in paroxysms which persist for a long variable time frame.
Doctor :   that continues for 2-4 weeks after one recovers from a cold or chest infection
Doctor :   Antibiotics do not work for this condition.

Doctor :   for help now, you can use cough suppresants , lozenges
User :   i am gargling lots of salt and water
Doctor :   like halls cough drops, can help
Doctor :   yes that will help and soothen the irritated air passages
User :   and running it through my nose as well...
User :   and then it produces phlegm...
Doctor :   in addition cough syrups containing , guaiphenesin

Doctor :   In addtion adequate hydration , and good rest also helps in healing.

Doctor :   but in presence of post infective inflammation, presence of slight amount of phlegm is ok
Doctor :   some medications that you can use include vicks sinex , or otrivine
Doctor :   these will reduce the symptoms and provide adequate relief
User :   i feel most of it comes from my nose when i do the salt watermix..
Doctor :   do you have a post nasal drip, or feel the nose is blocked ?
User :   nose is not blocked...but feel like i have runny nose that produces phlegm..

Doctor :   as i said, nasal decongestants like vicks sinex, otrivine will help
Doctor :   in addition taking claritin will also help
