User :   How long before athroscopic rotator cuff repair surgery should dental work be done
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age?
Doctor :   And what type of dental work are you referring too?
User :   It will be 4 weeks since I had the dental work, 2 teeth drilled with novacaine shot in preparation for a bridge. I am 58
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Are you on any regular medications apart from antibiotics?
User :   The surgeon suggested the surgery be 6 wks after any dental work but I am in a lot of pain and think 4 weeks is plenty since it wasn't invasive
User :   Blood pressure meds 5mg Norvasc BID and no antibiotics at this time
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   Any orthopedic surgery is performed after preexisting infection is treated.
Doctor :   If you had a tooth infection, the doctors may have a problem in performing the surgery.
Doctor :   Apart from this, I do not think of any other reason to delay the procedure, if all other medical work up is normal.
User :   There is/was no infection.....just routine dental work. I know that post surgery they recommend antibiotics before dental work but should something be taken prophylactically prior to surgery?
Doctor :   Prophylactic antibiotics will be given before surgery.
Doctor :   If you do not have any other medical illness that need treatment, and if you are not on antiplatelet/anticoagulants,
Doctor :   I do not think of any other reasons to delay the procedure.
Doctor :   You can speak to your dentist and obtain a fitness for surgery certificate, clearing you off infection.
User :   No other meds and all herbal supplements have been stopped 10 days prior.
Doctor :   This probably may give your orthopedic surgeon to get the rotator cuff surgery done earlier than the given date.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   Thanks...will procede with surgery as planned on Monday
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   No... all good for now
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor :   Wish you a speedy recovery
Doctor :   Take care.
Doctor :   Bye for now.
