User :   Hello!
I am having a slight paranoia right now I believe. I bartend at a local bar, kind of dive bar and I hate working there, but.... last night as I was cleaning up I picked up a rag from a table and felt a quick poke on my finger. My coworker freaked a bit because apparenty I was poked with a shirt pin that was left on the table by a homeless slightly sketch man that he had to kick out. He apparently left it and said it was all they gave him. My hypochondriac self has of course jumped to the worst conclusion that there is HIV on the pin. It did not immediately draw blood no can I see an abrasion now. When I washed my hand and squezzed my finger it did not redish as if it were going to bleed. I am positive the pin was sitting on the table under the rag for at least an hour. Should I have anything to fear at this point?
Thanks so much!
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   Let me read the query and give me couple of minutes
User :   Thanks so much!
User :   I typed it pretty fast, let me know if anything is unclear.
Doctor :   You do not have to fear at this point
Doctor :   The reason, is HIV virus cannot stay alive outside the human body
User :   I have been telling myself that since last night, just couldn't shake the bad feeling without talking to a physician.
Doctor :   You have done the right thing now talking to me
User :   So in your opinion there is no scenario even if the pin had been out for just a few minutes?
Doctor :   But let me assure you, that HIV virus cannot stay alive on dry surfaces and outside the body
Doctor :   There is no documented experience reported yet
User :   Thanks so much.
Doctor :   Please do not stick to those thoughts and
Doctor :   ruin your beautiful life
Doctor :   sorry not ruin
Doctor :   You should sleep well tonight
User :   i know, just better safe than sorry correct?
Doctor :   Right you have cleared your doubt now
Doctor :   and you can retire with no thoughts left behind
User :   :) I will sleep much better. Have a good evening. Thanks for offering your services here, really great for situations like this where I have no knowledge of the topic.
Doctor :   Pleasure to assist you
Doctor :   Thank you
Doctor :   here
User :   Hello again! i am sorry to bother once more, but I was speaking with my fiance and wondering if the fact that the pin was in a damp surrounding could not cause the virus (if one was present) to stay alive?
User :   Or by chance what is the likelihood if it was there if it would even be transmitted my slightly pricking my thumb? I don't know how you handle dealing with worried people like me all of the time but it is very respectable. Thank you.
Doctor :   You should accept the matter of fact that HIV virus cannot stay alive outside the host ( human body)
Doctor :   whether dry or damp
User :   Ok, I am sorry, someone mentioned to me that it can, in some cases even an hour.
User :   I believe is where I obtained that information.
Doctor :   I have never seen or reading the medical literature of a convincing instance in which HIV was passed by such instance
User :   Any advice on hypochondria then? Haha sorry... bad joke I suppose.
Doctor :   Relaxation
Doctor :   Just count 10 numbers and take deep breaths and slow release
Doctor :   Do it 10 times
User :   Taking an HIV test is not recommened in this instance than... i'm guessing that only fuels the hypochondria more.
Doctor :   certainly Yes
User :   yes to which? sorry :)
Doctor :   HIV test can fuel hypochondria
User :   Alright. Thank you, once again. I just got engaged and couldn't calm myself down of how terrible this would be if I got sick from something so silly as working one night a week at a bar to save money.
Doctor :   I think you are not doing any thing wrong, you can still save money
Doctor :   Have a wonderful life ahead with your fiance
Doctor :   Bye for now
User :   Thanks!
