Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can i help yu
User :   Hi, I have a long list of symptoms I typed out I want to copy and paste here
Doctor :   s
User :   did that go through?
User :   Hmm....maybe it doesn't take long blocks like that
User :   Let me describe all of my symptoms, so this will be long. About 6 weeks ago I started feeling chest pains, first in upper right chest and seemed to move into my right arm. Then I started worrying when the pain started moving into the left chest area a few days later. But I'd just had an EKG back in February which was fine, and I monitored by blood pressure & resting pulse, which did not seem abnormal. A week or 2 later, joining the chest pains, which I still experienced, I started constantly burping up this bitter tasting stuff, especially after eating...which I'd never experienced much before.
User :   I was also CONSTANTLY clearing my throat. Enough phlegm to make me clear my throat, not enough to cough up. Also feeling some pain in absomen, just above navel, but below breast. Then about 2 weeks ago, I started getting this sensation of something stuck in my throat.....usually in the mornings, and subsided some throughout the day. At times, it almost felt like it was sharp, cutting into my throat. I would take pills and it would feel like they would get stuck, without going down.
User :   About 2 weeks ago, a doctor friend told me to lose weight (I weighed 275 at the time), stop eating fatty and spicy foods, and try taking PRILOSEC OTC (That's the over-the-counter OMEPRAZOLE), and see if my symptoms were relieved. So I immediately cut ALL carbonated drinks and caffeine out of my diet. I eat bland, soft foods, almost all of which is low in fat. I've been more active and managed to lose 6 pounds in 2 weeks. Today is day 12 on the omeprazole and here's my status:
User :   I rarely ever burp up the acidy stuff any more. I don't have the constant heart pains any more, although occasionally I do still get a quick pain that comes and is gone in half a second. No more than a couple times a day.....and nowhere near the all-day-long experiences that I'd had before. I've almost completely eliminated the constant clearing of my throat (I experience it some right after eating, but not all day long as previously). What concerns me is that I still consistently wake up with the feeling of "something" in my throat. I will say, however, it no longer has that sharp, cutting feeling.....just an indistinct something. And I haven't had the feeling for 3 or 4 days of pills not going down.
Doctor :   Let me read it for a min or two
User :   I also have an umbilical hernia from 9 years ago....
User :   There are instances, though, if I try eating too fast when it feels like I have to wait a second because the last bite hasn't cleared the throat yet. So my questions are these: Do you have an opinion what my affliction is, and how much of a concern is it that 12 days into Omeprazole I still have the feeling of something stuck in my throat, especially in mornings?
Doctor :   Look after listening to the history I am happy that you started with the life style modifications
Doctor :   but it is wonder that you started to feel better
Doctor :   Usually it takes a couple of months for the person to feel good
Doctor :   though the symptoms start to regress
Doctor :   after 2 weeks
User :   You mean I should be glad it's worked as fast as it has...and I shouldn't hurry it?
User :   I shouldn't be worried yet?
Doctor :   Exactly
Doctor :   You should continue what you are doing
Doctor :   and the hiatal hernia could be the cause of your symptoms
Doctor :   and the reflux
Doctor :   too
Doctor :   So continue them for rest
User :   That's a relief. There are some days when I forget anything's has improved that much....but then I get tempted to eat the wrong things...and I feel it the next day.
Doctor :   and you feel 90% relieved after 2 months
Doctor :   and Prilosec takes 4 weeks to show its effect
Doctor :   too
Doctor :   so all the best
User :   Ok, one last thing
Doctor :   for your good
User :   and I'll leave
Doctor :   yes
User :   If after a couple months, I feel 90% better...but still every few days feel the occasional chest that to be expected?
Doctor :   yes
User :   In other words, I'm the type who might panic if I feel the slightest symptom 2 months from now
User :   if I don't know that it's ok to feel it
Doctor :   yes
User :   Ok, thank you. You've releived me a lot.
Doctor :   but you need follow up with the doctor to run battery of investigations
Doctor :   atleast once in 6 to 9 months
User :   ok
User :   I'm done. Thanks
Doctor :   bye good luck
