User :   My mother (age 55) is having burning pain localized in right side back (near rib's ending). An x-ray of the lumbar region of spine turned out to be normal (Even though her pain is near the thoracic region the doctor insisted on a x-ray of lumbar-sacral region only).
The doctor said there is nothing other than minor wear and tear of the disc (which is expected from a osteoarthritis patient like my mom). So he did not suggest any medicine. The pain is still there for 1.5 months. What to do now? What could be the problem?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   may I know her height and weight?
User :   Height 151 cm weight 60 kgs
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   She is overweight for her height
Doctor :   Is it only on right side or does it shift sides?
User :   only on right side
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Since when is it present and how has it progressed from then?
User :   constant pain throughout the day. It reduces in the night when she is resting
Doctor :   Ok
User :   it remains at the same level for past 1.5 months
User :   from June 12th
User :   sorry..
Doctor :   it does associate to be due to the strain on the part
User :   May 12th
Doctor :   more weight, wrong posture while working, sitting
Doctor :   are some of the causes
User :   But we were concerned if it is possible that she has a disc problem in throcic spine?
User :   a constant pain for 1.5 months is very worrying
Doctor :   Does she have gastric problem or any difficulty in breathing?
User :   she had gastric problem in the past not now.
Doctor :   Ok
User :   no breathing problems
Doctor :   Disc problem is not likely
Doctor :   no need to worry
Doctor :   she should exercise well
Doctor :   and take rest as well
Doctor :   Good posture is beneficial
Doctor :   in the sense in a balanced way
User :   can I also go for a second suggestion from some other place like Hosmat?
Doctor :   not tilting to any side
Doctor :   I dont see the need for it now
Doctor :   but you can take her for pain treatment
Doctor :   if pain is really of concern
User :   the doctor gave some pain medicine....
Doctor :   pain treatment I mean to say ultrasonic treatment
Doctor :   not tablets
User :   she wants it to go away fully.. she is more worried about "can this be more serious underneath?"
User :   that thought is keeping her tensed and worried
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   I dont see any serious problem causing it
User :   I am not sure if you are familar with bangalore hospitals. but if you are, where can we go for pain treatment?
Doctor :   I am from Bangalore
Doctor :   So I can help you in that
User :   also if she get gastric is it a concern? Do we need to go for some gallbladder scan?
Doctor :   Gall bladder scan is not required as per the history
User :   But our consulting doctor keep saying it is all normal and she does not need much of treatment.. is he right? We went twice and both times he said the same.
Doctor :   not treating the problem
Doctor :   as there is nothing detecting
Doctor :   pain can be treated
User :   We did a gallbladder scan 6 months back at Lotus Diagnostic centre and an endoscopy too. The diagnostic at that time was "Antral gastritis" and nothing else. Rest all normal. IS it a cause for concern now?
Doctor :   to improve the quality of life
Doctor :   not at all
User :   I even insisted the doctor to take an MRI if that helps. I know I am being paranoid. But somehow the biggest concern for us is "It should not be anything serious".
Doctor :   antral gastritis is nothing to do with it
Doctor :   The doctors shall decide upon it
Doctor :   I dont see the need for you insisting on it
User :   Sorry if I sound stupid. I assume the doctor's panel here are general and not specialized in areas like ortho. So can I take it at face value? Really Sorry I hope I do not sound insulting.
Doctor :   not at all
Doctor :   I shall give you the specialist link
Doctor :   where you can consult him over phone or email
Doctor :   We do have specialists in our panel
User :   So how long this pain will take usually to subside?
User :   it is constant for 1.5 months! What is the exact cause of it?
Doctor :   Pain shall subside on giving it good rest
User :   does she need to take complete rest for days/weeks?
Doctor :   complete rest is not essential
User :   The pain is more in the day and less in the night
Doctor :   proper resting posture is required
Doctor :   for which a personal consultation with an orthopedician is helpful
Doctor :   and physiotherpay is beneficial for pain
User :   Ok. In conclusion do you suggest rest/pain relief treatment and second suggestion is not necessary? Dr said we can try physiotherapy if the pain lasts for more than this month end.
Doctor :   'physiotherapy
Doctor :   Yes, Physiotherapy is worth trying
Doctor :   and is quite sufficient for pain relief
User :   why is the pain not on the spine but 3 inches away from it?
Doctor :   because it is not spinal problem
Doctor :   but the soft tissue
User :   the doctor suggested some exercise to strengthen muscles..
User :   but she is finding it difficult to do exercise with pain..
User :   is it ok to do exercises with pain?
Doctor :   Yes, if she does it correctly
Doctor :   otherwise take help of a physical therapist
Doctor :   one can visit home
Doctor :   and help her
User :   where can we find one? I am sort of not used to Bangalore. I am from Chennai settled here recently
Doctor :   You can approach any hospital
Doctor :   they shall provide one
Doctor :   it shall help you to understand the problem better
Doctor :   and the treatment modalities available
Doctor :   as he is an expert in the field
User :   is it possible to have a personal appointment or only phone?
Doctor :   only phone is available
User :   ok. I see in a review that Health care magic do suggest hospitals if needed.
Doctor :   Yes we do
Doctor :   I have done that I believe
