User :   Hi, I have battled cancer the last 14 years. I now have metastatic breast cancer with cutaneous metastasis to the neck and chest wall. According to a CT scan I show no metastasis to vital organs. However, I have sever pain 9 or 10 on charts in my left flank area under my is non stop now for 3 days. The pain shoots through to the front. It is painful to sit or lie down. What could be the cause of this pain? Any insight would be appreciated. Thanks
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello, could the pain be caused from further metastasis?
Doctor :   May I know your age and the type of cancer that you have.
User :   Age 50 with metastatic breast cancer with cutaneous metastasis to neck and chest wall
Doctor :   The pain due to the cancer growth can be caused by the size of the tumour, nerve compression by the tumour cells or involvement of the nerves by the growth of the tumour itself.
Doctor :   Any of there can be causing the pain.
User :   Can it be metastasis to my pancrease but they cannot see it on scan
Doctor :   If there is no sign of the metastasis to the organs,
Doctor :   the cause for the pain may not be due to metastatis.
Doctor :   As suggested the pain may be arising due to the primary tumour itself due to any of those above reasons.
User :   I don't understand. The cancer is grwoing but it can be seen
Doctor :   May I know the exact location of the tumour?
User :   I have 5 to 6 tumors around my jugular vein

User :   and on my chest wall about 5 inches long and3 inches wide
Doctor :   On which side of the chest is the tumour located?
User :   left
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   May I know the nature of the pain?
User :   That is my question. Why would I have severe pain in my lower back and stomach
Doctor :   Since I cannot perform a physical examination, unless I know the proper details of the pain, its a difficult to predict the cause of the pain.
Doctor :   However, I can only say this,
Doctor :   the pain can arise due to multiple reasons, that also includes the
Doctor :   metastasis to other organs
Doctor :   But a metastatic sites can be picked up by radioimaging techniques to a significant extent,.
Doctor :   If your scans were performed recently and are negative for the metastasis, then the other causes have to be considered.
User :   OK thanks so you for your insight. Make it a Great Day!
Doctor :   I suggest you to consult you doctor for physical examination, as a thorough examination will provide you with much more information regarding the cause of pain.
