User :   I am a 50 yo female. Been having face pressure and ear fullness for a few weeks, with sneezing and watery eyes. Though I wss getting fall allergies. Last week, went for colonscopy/endoscopy. First, got massive headache from Dulcolax prep. Somewhat better the next day. After the procedure, later in the day, began developing terrible headpain and face pain and pressure -moves around. Also developed low grade fever, and lumps in back of head, tender to touch, in the scalp, about an inch away from each ear. Called Dr, yesterday, got prescription filled for Augmentin. Have taken 4 doses - not working. Pain and pressure increasing. Non-productive. Cannot get head off pillow. Have taken Tylenol and Benadryl also. Nothing helping. Getting worse. Moving down into neck. Pain and strain explode when i turn my head. Getting nervous.
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   DR.XXX here
Doctor :   please give me few moments to read through what you have typed.
Doctor :   do you have vomiting, upper stomach discomfort, burning sensation in chest, burping, belching, or flatulence?
User :   no
Doctor :   are you on any other medication apart from Augmentin?
User :   yes - diabetes meds - Metformin 1,000 mg. 2x daily, Lantus insulin 30 units in a.m., NovoLog 12 units for meal coverage. Also on Neuronti, 300 mg. 3x daily, and an occasional Xanax - 0.25 mg. prn
Doctor :   ok. were your sugar levels checked? if yes, what were the recent values?
User :   This morning, blood sugar was 124 - yesterday morning, it was 102,
Doctor :   do you have fullness sensation getting increased when you bend down or look down?
User :   yes
Doctor :   when you press just above the eyebrows, is it tender there?
User :   no - tenderness is all in back of head, even though there is pain and pressure on bridge of nose and also top of head. I am not coughing or sneezing or producing anything.
Doctor :   ok. are you on any gastric acid controlling medication? for what purpose colonscopy/endoscopy done? was it esophago-gastric endoscopy or sinus endoscopy?
Doctor :   are your allergic symptoms worse after the procedure? is the watering from eye still continuing?
User :   Well, I am 50 and needed the colonoscopy anyway, but its part of procedures being done for weight loss surgey. They were normal - not on any gastric meds. No longer sneezing or coughing - no watery eyes. Jus pain and pressure - feeling like my head is going to blow off.t
Doctor :   is there tingling or numbness sensation going down the neck towards shoulder or arms?
User :   No tingling or numbness, but pain and strain near the back of my head where the lumps are - pain has moved into the neck from the head, but head atill hurts everywhere. Never had anything like this before.
Doctor :   ok. i would recommend you to visit an ENT or head and neck specialist for examination of the lumps and your neck. along with this an x-ray of CT scan of head and neck might be needed to see if there are any serious issues
Doctor :   in the meantime take Tab Tylenol 2 times a day after food along with Tab Prilosec 2 time a day before food
User :   I have an appt. with my PCP tomorrow at noon. Have been scared at the increasing pain and pressure - even with antibiotic. Do you think its safe to wait and not go to an ER?
Doctor :   try with steam inhalation and see if it gives relief to strain and pressure effects, if it does, then continue doing it for 2-3 times a day
User :   Why Prilosec? Have n gastric issues.
Doctor :   if the pain is not coming down with taking Tylenol in 1/2 to 1 hour's time then visiting ER would be the right option
User :   OK
Doctor :   subclinical gastric issues can also lead to headcahes that you describe. Tylenol can induce gastritis too, so taking it will help you not to have added problems
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yes
Doctor :   are you regular with taking Xanax?
Doctor :   have you taken it since these symptoms have started?
User :   no schedule - take 0.25 mg. about 3-4 times a week.
User :   yes
Doctor :   did it give any relief?
User :   no - because the pain and pressure keep intensifying.
Doctor :   ok. then I would recommend you to visit the ER if Tylenol too does not give relief.
User :   ok
Doctor :   if you start having nausea, blurry vision, more fullness sensation in ears, dizziness, then do not wait, rush to the ER.
User :   I will.
User :   Why is the pain moving around?
Doctor :   it could be due to nerves being compressed due to pressure, as the pressure effects change places, the site of pressure and pain keep changing depending on where there is pressure
User :   Does it sound like infected sinuses?
Doctor :   if there were long standing or chronic sinus issues, then it could suggest infected sinuses too. if it is due to infected sinuses, then steam inhalation along with taking Tylenol could help
User :   ok. thanks.
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   no, thank you.
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
User :   bye.
