User :   Hi, I had a cyst on my right ovary. It burst a couple days ago and starting the next day, my right side went numb. I m pretty sure this is from my cyst bursting since the ultrasound said there was no more cyst. The doctors have me going in circles, each referring me to a different doctor. What is the suggested treatment for this or do you think I m completely wrong and this is a coincidence?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   let me read your query
Doctor :   you mean to say you have numbness of the right side of the body or just the arms ?
User :   It started as just my hand and then my leg as well, but now its my arm too
Doctor :   is the numbness still present ?
User :   by numbess I don't mean its always tingly, that is only when I'm using it a lot (like typing right now). Its always "numb" meaning my skin can feel, but when I press down on it, I can't feel any pressure
User :   Yes, the numbess is still present
User :   This morning my face tingled a little as well, still the right side
Doctor :   Do you have any weakness or difficulty walking ?
User :   Only when using it, like running, my leg stiffens and gets weak. writing, my hand does the same. Its not as bad typing, although after a few minutes I need to take breaks
Doctor :   ok,
Doctor :   may i know your age weight height ?
User :   I'm 24, 69 inches, 155 pounds
User :   no kids, I have an IUD
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   it seems that you may have a vascular cause that could be affecting you ?
User :   What do you mean by that?
Doctor :   have you done any tests done so far ?
User :   They did a CT on my head, it was clean, also some blood tests (not sure which ones exactly). Its really hard to get medical care where I am right now.
Doctor :   may i know where you reside
Doctor :   your symptoms could be due to either thrombosis of the veins
Doctor :   so getting a few blood tests to check the clotting tests, and a doppler sonography to check for DVT would be helpful
User :   Then why would it have happened right after the cyst. I had some blood the day before and my cyst pains stopped.
Doctor :   the other conditions that might be the cause could be arterial embolism due to the cyst material entering the blood vessels
User :   are either of those hard to test for?
Doctor :   no they are easy
Doctor :   they are available at amy medical center
Doctor :   **any
User :   could you give me the testing information for the second one you mentioned?
Doctor :   same tests, and doppler sonography would be done for the arteries
User :   ok, and if I don't get them soon, I'll still live?
Doctor :   do you have any fever, abdominal pain, any rashes any other issues ?
User :   No fever, a little abdominal pain and no rashes
User :   no other issues
Doctor :   in case of arterial embolism, you may have some tissue damage or symptoms that can persist for long time, if the treatment is delayed
Doctor :   but there is no danger to life
User :   do you mean delayed by days or weeks?
Doctor :   delayed by days
User :   ok, is there anything else serious I should know about either of these issues... anything I shouldn't be doing, etc.
Doctor :   avoid taking medications like aspirin
Doctor :   keep yourself mobile to prevent blood stagnation
Doctor :   can you tell me , if you found the numbness only on waking up ? or it presented itself suddenly while you were awake ?
User :   there was no numbness when I woke up, not that I could tell at least.
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   If the numbness is associated with motor deficits like weakness, paralysis, etc it could be due to a more serious cause which would require additional evaluation by a neurologist.
Doctor :   If the numbness is the lone symptom, and is transient and it resolves within a reasonable time (1-2 hrs) it could be due to nerve compression. The numbness is due to compression of the peripheral nerve at a point where it is near the surface. As the compression is relieved the numbness resolves. Usually just taking steps to avoid the compression is enough.
User :   but would you say that is isn't since I have numbness without weakness?
User :   its definately not the lone symptom situation. Thanks so much for your time!
Doctor :   in you case, if it is a transietnt symptoms that recovers , by itself, it could be a a benign issue
Doctor :   but prsence of the ruptred cyst , increases the chances of DVT or arterial embolism
Doctor :   so the tests i mentioned, would be perfect in your situation
Doctor :   i hope i have cleared your doubts
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me here
Doctor :   bye for now
