Doctor :   Let me brief you.
User :   sure..
Doctor :   Do you have any other symptoms such as skin allergies?

User :   I have allergy from strong smells
User :   and on my neck, I feel some allergy..
User :   I think from dust..
User :   But it is not much..

Doctor :   Ok
User :   I try to remain away from dust and smell..
Doctor :   Have you been evaluated for these causes?
User :   no..
Doctor :   Ok
User :   for skin allergy on the back of neck.. I have some tube.. which helps me ..
Doctor :   I shall discuss these issues about this now.
User :   but this allergy is not that much harming..
User :   sure..
Doctor :   There are 2 varieties of rhinitis (nasal congestion) depending on the cause.
Doctor :   Allergic and non allergic.
User :   ok.
Doctor :   According to your description of the symptoms, you may probably be having the second variety , a non allergic one referred to as vasomotor rhinitis.
Doctor :   Allergies may also be contributing to this.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   The cause for this condition is not known an has to do a lot with temperature changes, stress and anxiety issues and so on.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   Apart from this occasionally
User :   One more thing doctor, during allergy I also feel itching in my eyes...
Doctor :   there can be structural changes in the nose such as hypertrophied turbinates or a deviated nasal septum contributing to your symptom.
User :   Last year, doctor took the x-ray of my nose.. But I think structural changes in the nose do not found..
User :   like for sinus..
Doctor :   The treatment in such conditions is to treat the cause if any by the help of medical drugs or surgical measures.
Doctor :   Since structural problems have been ruled out, the chances of surgical treatment is very less.
User :   ok...
Doctor :   I shall discuss about the medical/conservative treatment plans that may help you.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   1. Antihistaminics are very useful in allergic conditions, however they are effective short lived if the allergens are still present.
Doctor :   Hence you need to take all precautions to avoid allergies.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   2. Apart from the oral antihistaminics, you may also use nasal sprays.
User :   ok.
Doctor :   Nasal sprays are available as saline nasal sprays, decongestants, steroid sprays or antihistaminic sprays.
Doctor :   You may try one of these.
User :   ok.
Doctor :   The best among them ( in terms of less side effects are saline nasal sprays)
Doctor :   Try avoiding decongestant nasal sprays as much as possible as they can cause rebound phenomena, once the effect of these sprays disappear.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   3. Steam inhalations and the use of humidifiers at your home and at work.
Doctor :   4. Preventing allergies
Doctor :   You can prevent allergies by the use of face mask while driving, walking around park or where there are plenty of trees and bushes,
User :   ok..
User :   ok.. sure..
Doctor :   keeping your place of stay(home or office) clean and dust free.
Doctor :   Changing the window screens regularly.
Doctor :   and so on.
User :   ok sure..
User :   I mostly found this thing in rainy season..
Doctor :   5. Increasing your body resistance.
User :   for example.. during March, april to August.. this problem was not much..
Doctor :   This is possible by a good diet, plenty of vegetables and fruits.
Doctor :   Use vitamin supplements if necessary.
User :   and suddenly for last two weeks, it increased a lot..
User :   ok sure..
Doctor :   Weather changes causing rhinitis is a common feature of vasomotor rhinitis, the best treatment in such conditions apart from the oral antihistaminics are steam inhalation, nasal sprays and the use of humidifiers.
Doctor :   6. I would also suggest you to watch out for things that can induce allergies such as food, pollens and so on.
User :   ok..
Doctor :   If interested, you can also get an allergen test.
User :   I think, it is mostly due to pollens..
User :   sure doctor.. How can I go for that.?
Doctor :   7. In case your symptoms are severe and if you develop any other symptoms such as fever, severe headaches, consult your doctor - to prevent or treat infective conditions if any.
Doctor :   Allergen test are done at most recognised laboratories and multispeciality hospitals.
User :   ok..
User :   how much time it takes to complete the test.?
Doctor :   Your local doctor will be able to give you more information on the exact location which will be best.
Doctor :   The test will take few hours and the results should be available in a day or two.
User :   ok.. sure..
User :   Can you suggest me some place where I can go for this test.?
Doctor :   And finally, if your conditions are persistent and recurring often, you can try surgical treatment, in the form of turbinate reduction which can help to relieve the symptoms.
Doctor :   I would suggest the allergen test only if necessary, that is if the allergic symptoms are very frequent and is troubling you.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   I could not get about surgical treatment.?
User :   how does it help??
Doctor :   Surgical treatment is the last resort in treating non allergic conditions when the symptoms are severe and recurring too often.
User :   okay..
Doctor :   It involves partly stripping the nasal mucosa, alternatively shrinking the turbinates(structure in the nose) to cause widening of the nasal cavity.
Doctor :   This helps in reducing/ relieving the symptoms.
Doctor :   This treatment is however the last resort in treating severe, non controllable conditions.
User :   ok.. sure....
Doctor :   They are done by ENT surgeon.
User :   okay..
Doctor :   The need for such treatment is often rare and you may not be needing it.
User :   Doctor, As taking Allegra 120 mg gives me relief for one day..
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Can I take it regularly... when the allergy condition is there....
User :   ??
Doctor :   My opinion is that you use nasal sprays/drops more often and antihistaminics as supportive drug.
User :   okay..
Doctor :   Though there is no harm, except for drowsiness in a few in taking the antihistamincs,
Doctor :   its basically to avoid you developing resistance on this drug.
User :   Is Allegra antihistamincs???
Doctor :   Yes allegra is an antihistaminic.
User :   okay..
Doctor :   Do you have any other query?
User :   and nasal spray.. they are antihistamincs????
Doctor :   Nasal spray/drops are available as isotonic nasal saline containing sodium chloride as an active ingredent
Doctor :   brand name of one such product is nasoclear nasal drops.
Doctor :   Apart from this you have
User :   okay..
Doctor :   2. Decongestant nasal drops - active ingredent oxymetazoline, one of the brand names is otrivin.
Doctor :   3. Steroid nasal spray - active ingredent flucortizone.
User :   okay..
Doctor :   4. Antihistaminic nasal spray active ingredient azelatidine.
