Doctor :   HI,
User :   Hello Dr
User :   I have a newborn daughter 26 days old. She has been having nasal congestion for the past few days and she has been irritated and cranky for the past 2 days. We have been using Nasivion-S nasal drops (1 drop in each nostril 2-3 times a day).
User :   But from the look of her, we feel she is still uncomfortable....
User :   and she sometimes blows foamy bubbles from her mouth while breathing/sleeping
User :   She is on breastfeed
Doctor :   Ok,
User :   Mother also has had fever and cold in last 4 days, but we gave the mother Crocin and LCZ Plus and now her fever is OK
Doctor :   is the mother free of the symptoms completely ?
User :   Yes, the mother is now free of 90% of the symptoms. Only some throat congestion is left and phlegm is clearing out gradually
Doctor :   ok, fine
Doctor :   i would advice you to stop nasivion s drops
Doctor :   as it could worsen the congestion
User :   Okay, we will stop it....
User :   What else....
Doctor :   and may i know the babies weight ?
User :   Babies weight is approximately 4.2 kgs
Doctor :   ok, does the baby have fever ?
User :   No, we checked, she doesn't have fever....
Doctor :   ok, i would advice you to give her febrex 125mg about ,2.5 ml once in the night
User :   Mother or the baby ?
Doctor :   to the baby
Doctor :   and keep the baby worm
User :   You mean, can the baby take something other than breast milk at this age ?
Doctor :   and only if the cold gets worse , you can give her NASIVION D nasal drops , not more than a drop in each nostril
Doctor :   No but syrups are exclusion
User :   Okay, and what would febrex contain if I may ask, and also how do we measure 2.5 ml (is there a measure along with the medicine)
Doctor :   yes, there will be a dropper available with it
Doctor :   and it contains paracetamol
Doctor :   and do not exceed syp more than 2 t 2.5 ml
Doctor :   give it for not more than 3 days
User :   okay, so this has to be given irrespective of whether the baby has fever... ?
Doctor :   yes, since its an anti inflammatory in action it will reduce the inflammation in the nasal cavity and reduce the symptoms
User :   Okay, and anything else - Also doctor, I am sure you would understand my concern for the newborn, so I hope Febrex is very safe....
Doctor :   yes, but i would consider nebulisation / steam inhalation as the best remedy in new borns for th cold
User :   Steam inhalation - from a distance ?
Doctor :   yes, right
User :   ok
Doctor :   and I am sure of the febrex too
User :   and also what should we do if the baby does not burp after drinking milk
Doctor :   but you can postpone it mean while trying steam inhalation
Doctor :   you have to carry the baby over the shoulder and pat over the back
Doctor :   and it should be done for a minimum of 15 to 20 min
User :   Yes, we do that but she doesn't burp sometimes. We pat her for around 10-15 mins
Doctor :   extend the time and let the baby be breast fed continuously for minimum of 10 to 15 min
User :   Okay, so if the baby does not breast feed for more than 5 minutes, you mean she has not taken the feed properly
Doctor :   intermittent feeding or a gap of few minutes between feeds can cause this problem in babies
Doctor :   you can extend the patting for more time but do it in episodes
User :   Okay
User :   Thank you doctor, for all your help....
Doctor :   you are welcome
Doctor :   thanks for consulting me
