User :   Hi!
I'm a little concerned I'm 12 days late on my period. I haven't had actual sexual intercourse but i have fooled around with a guy on Sept. 21. I then got my period super heavy on Oct. 12. I haven't been eating as much as i used to (im trying to cut down on my cal intake and have lost approx 15lbs within the last month) i haven't been regular on my birth control this month because my prescription got screwed up and i've been under alottttt of stress. is it possible i'm pregnant?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :   let me read what you have typed. please give me a few moments
User :   hi
Doctor :   delayed periods could be due to many reasons
Doctor :   1) messing up pills
Doctor :   2) stress
Doctor :   3) pregnancy
Doctor :   4) change in eating habits
Doctor :   if pregnancy is suspected (which the most common cause for delayed periods) a blood HCG test will confirm it.
User :   even if i got my period last month?
User :   i havent been with anyone since september
User :   and i dont know if a blood hcg test will work on me because i was taking a dietary supplement which contained hcg
Doctor :   yes, it could be possible, if the periods were abnormal
Doctor :   ok
Doctor :   are you still taking the supplement?
User :   no, i haven't in a few months
Doctor :   ok, then you can safely take teh HCG test
User :   ok
Doctor :   how is your present diet? is it well balanced?
Doctor :   were your periods regular before this episode?
User :   before this yes, i'm on a couple medications and everything was status quo then in october and november i had complications getting my prescription so i haven't taking my birth control in about a month and a half. i also have hypothyroidism and havent been as regular with my levothyroxin as i should be
User :   ive been dieting for about a month or so now, i typically eat one small meal a day
Doctor :   ok. so many changes and your past history of medical illness can upset your hormonal levels
Doctor :   I would recommend you to go ahead with examination and hormonal analysis with your gynecologist
User :   ok
Doctor :   if any abnormality is found, then treatment can be directed to correct it
User :   so the chances of me being pregnant is small right? especially if we didn't have full fledge intercourse?
Doctor :   take your medications as instructed. do not skip them, you might need dose readjustment after your consulation
Doctor :   chances of pregnancy cannot be completely ruled out, because if you were in your fertile periods (time of egg release from ovary) at the time of intercourse/sexual contact, then even pre-cum can cause pregnancy since it is known to contain sperms.
User :   i know i wasn't ovulating.. it was the day after the last day of my period
Doctor :   it could still be close to your fertile period. how long is your normal duration of periods?
User :   3-4 days
Doctor :   what is your menstrual cycle length? (time gap between 2 periods)
User :   when im on the pill regularly typically 26-28 days
User :   i was on the pill when me and him fooled around
Doctor :   since you messed up taking pills and were not regular on it
Doctor :   the chances of ovulation is present
Doctor :   since you are no longer protected if you miss two or more pills
Doctor :   if your menstrual cycle length is 26-28 days, the fertile period would be from 6th-16th day, taking day 1 as first day of bleeding
Doctor :   so if you have had early ovulation, pregnancy could be a result
User :   i see
User :   if i went to the doctor and they took a blood test to find out, how long does it typically take to get the results?
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   yeah.. so the day after i could have been ovulating
Doctor :   it takes 1 day. and blood HCG test can detect pregnancy accurately as early as 11 days post conception
Doctor :   it is a possibility that you ovulated.
User :   ok
Doctor :   is there anything else I can help you with?
User :   another question, if he did get me pregnant 2 months ago.. is it strange that im losing weight?
Doctor :   you might be losing weight due to your diet and thyroid issues too
User :   yeah
Doctor :   pregnancy is one of the possibility
Doctor :   you need to rule out other hormonal issues too
Doctor :   as cause for your symptoms
User :   right
User :   i really screwed up my body this month
User :   between not taking pills, not eating properly and being under a ton of stress
User :   i haven't had any other symptoms of pregnancy other than the missed period... are there any other symptoms i should be having at this point if i am? no morning sickness, not pickles and ice cream kind of cravings
Doctor :   it is not necessary that all women should experinece symptoms of pregnancy
Doctor :   some women experience as early as 24 hours post fruitful intercourse and some do not experience at all
Doctor :   look out for fatigue, tiredness, constipation, increased sleep, hunger and urination frequency, headaches, mood changes, breast soreness, nipple sensitivity, abdominal cramps, bloating, food cravings etc
Doctor :   have you followed what I have said?
User :   most of that happens in my day to day though fatigue, tiredness, mood changes.. that's due to my hypothyroidism and my depression i take effexor xr 35mg
User :   yeah it makes sense
Doctor :   yes, few of them can be overlapping symptoms
Doctor :   is there anything else you would like to ask me?
User :   i guess thats it for now, so basically i need to be regular with my pills and make an appointment with the gyno.
User :   thanks for your help Doctor!
Doctor :   ok. thanks for consulting me. bye for now.
