User :   I have a small pea-sized lump or bump in the center of my armpit. It is tender to the touch and when pressed. I am a 44 yr old female and I have had this for a few days. Last mammogram was normal in Nov. 2009, next one is scheduled in three weeks. Any idea what it could be?
Doctor :   hello
Doctor :   i am Dr XXX here
User :   Hi
User :   XXX
Doctor :   give me a min please, let me read your query
Doctor :   have you noticed any color changes ?
Doctor :   has the lump increased in size ?
User :   not really any color changes, it is slightly pink but maybe due to touching it. It hasn't changed size in the past few days that I've noticed it.
Doctor :   have you had any fever ?
User :   no
Doctor :   can you tell me its consistency ? is it hard to touch ?
User :   It is somewhat hard when I press on it.
Doctor :   Lumps in the armpit have various causes
Doctor :   Cysts and infections on the surface of the skin of the armpit may be caused by shaving or use of antiperspirants
Doctor :   Lumps may occur when lymph nodes are swollen due to bacterial or viral infections
Doctor :   i strongly suggest that you should get a physical examination done by a physician
User :   I am planning to this week. I am going to try to move my mammogram up sooner than november
User :   i read that cancer lumps are usually not painful, is that true?
Doctor :   yes thats true
Doctor :   just get it examined, like i said most probably it looks like infection
Doctor :   is it warm to touch compared to other part of skin ?
User :   not really warmer than other parts of the skin or other armpit. if it is an infection, would I be feeling ill in other ways as well?
Doctor :   not really as it can be an infected lymph node which just presents itself as in your case
User :   ok, well i guess i am going to get it checked out asap.
Doctor :   even an allergic reaction can cause it
Doctor :   yes you should
User :   ok, thank you for your input.
Doctor :   your most welcome
User :   g'nite...
Doctor :   is there anything else i can help you with ?
User :   no, i think that's it... that's enough to worry about for now! :)
Doctor :   no problem
Doctor :   take care
Doctor :   good night
Doctor :   bye
User :   thanks, bye
