User :   I have been running a low grade fever 99.2 to 99.5 during the day but it goes down to normal at night and is normal in the morning.I had a stomach ramps one week ago for a few days but those have passed. What could this be?
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   May I know your age and gender?
Doctor :   Since when are you running fever?
User :   Im a 55 year old female. I started last Saturday night and has been on and off since then
Doctor :   Do you have body pains or generalised body weakness?
User :   Not really
Doctor :   Do you have nausea or vomiting?
User :   Slight nausea once in a while, but not all the time. No vomiting
Doctor :   Is your appetite normal?
Doctor :   Do you have burning sensation while passing urine?
User :   I am hungry but am eating small meals several times a day because I do not want the pains to come back
User :   Slight buring sensation when I urinate
Doctor :   Do you have any other medical illness such as diabetes, hypertension?
User :   None that I know of. I had breast cancer 19.5 years ago and have been cancer freee since.
Doctor :   Ok
User :   Had all my scans last August that were completely normal and all my blood work end of May this year is all normal
Doctor :   Let me explain it to you.
Doctor :   Since your symptoms are acute in nature, it is suggestive of an infection which is
Doctor :   more of viral in nature.
Doctor :   However there are remote possibilities of bacterial infection such as enteric fever which may be getting settled.
Doctor :   Since your fever is just low grade, you would need nothing more than tylenol tablets whenever you feel feverish along with multivitamin pills.
Doctor :   These can be obtained easily as they are OTC medications.
Doctor :   Apart from these I would also suggest you these.
Doctor :   1. Be regular with you food habbits, and
Doctor :   2. Good hydration is equally important - you will have to consume atleast one and half litre of water per day, that amounts to atleast 8 glasses of water per day.
Doctor :   3. Avoid spicy food and use more of vegetables and fruits in your diet.
Doctor :   4. If your symptoms are persisting inspite of these measures or if the fever becomes high grade, then you would need antibiotics, hence
Doctor :   you will have to see your local doctor then.
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   I have followed you. Is the water to flush my system? I typically do not drink that much water. What is considered a high grade fever?
Doctor :   High grade fever is one where you get chills along with fever. Alternatively if you temperature rises more than 100 degree Fahrenheit, you can consider it to be high grade.
Doctor :   And water, if you are able to tolerate then you can use them.
Doctor :   It is contraindicated if you have a heart or a kidney problem, which you do not have.
Doctor :   And yes, it is mainly to flush your system.
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   Yes. Since it has already been 7 days how long should it be before this stops? Or when should I go to the doctor?
Doctor :   Most often these infections usually settle in a week. Occasionally it can last upto 10 days.
Doctor :   So you can see a doctor if its persisting for more than 10 to 14 days.
User :   Ok thank you
Doctor :   Do you have any other query that I can assist you with?
User :   At this time no.
Doctor :   Thanks for consulting me. Bye for now. Please refer your friends to our service.
