User :   Good Evening, My name I am a 37 year old female. I was diagnosed with IgA Nephropathy in May 2006. My Nephrologist explained that my biopsy showed focal and segmental sclerosis and cresents (both cellular and fibrocellular). In addition there was mild interstitial and mild arterial sclerosis. What I am trying to determine is the following: I was working onboard a ship for 16 months that had asbestoes in 1997/98 and was subsequently exposed - First question - is there a link between having chronic bronchitis and chest infections; being exposed to asbestoes to a period of 15 months and contracting IgA Nephropathy? I have read several articles that have stated that there is a link between asbestoes and autoimmune diseases. The second part of my question is: I had blood in my urine in 97, and hematuria again in my urin in 2002 and 2003 during a urinalysis for a life insurance policy; and I was seen by an internist for edema in 2001 (the edema was always in both legs and constant but determined to be idiopathic) - based on this information - could these initial symptoms have lead to further testing and a biopsy earlier, therefore leading to a sooner diagnosis of IgA Nephropathy and sooner stabilization, leading to less loss of function in my kidneys (I currently have lost 1/4 of each kidney). I look forward to hearing from you.
Doctor :   Hi,
Doctor :   D
User :   Hello
Doctor :   I remember we had a discussion over the same last night
User :   I wasn't sure if I was speaking to the same doctor or not?! I thought that I would go on to the online chat and see if I would get the same answer as I did last night. I am expecting to have the same answers. I have received so many differing opinions, that I just wanted to see if, for the first time, I would get the same opinion...
Doctor :   thats a good idea
Doctor :   i would ask you to come after sometime so that another doctor contacts you,
