User :   Dear Sir, I am new to this discussion. I am 30 year old male. I have multiple lumps all over my body. some of them are on my arms, thighs and buttocks. they are all smaller in size , around a cm in diameter, soft, round shaped. I have consulted doctors and have all the tests done way back in 2005. They said they are fatty tumors and they also informed me nothing to worry about them. Since then the number of tumors remained almost the same. I have recently visited a surgeon for removing some of them on my arms. He said they are neurofibromas simply by physical examination. And two days later i had a surgery and removed 3 of them. Now i am really confused whether I have lipomas or neurofibromas. The removed lumps are in light rose color. Moreover, in this month i am going to get married. Does they affect my married life. Can I have children like others? Neither my father nor my mother has them. I have seen lot of pictures in the internet. Most of the pictures resembles my lumps are actually lipomas. Was in confusion. Help me.
User :   please read my query sir
User :   HI
User :   I am Dr.
User :   hello sir
User :   Please wait while I go through your query
User :   nice to talk to you
User :   please go ahead
User :   Neurofibromas do not affect your family life
User :   ok sir
User :   You have no problem producing children
User :   There is nothing to panic
User :   thats good to hear
User :   Is there any other question that I can answer for you?
User :   i know it is difficult to answer! are they lipomas or neurofibromas
User :   I have searched the internet, Th lumps i have resembles that of lipomas
User :   Lipomas and Neurofibromas are both common, however lipomas are more common
User :   soft, movable in all directions, painless, round dome liked shape
User :   Both resemble the same
User :   Oh I see
User :   how to diagnise them in that case
User :   I had FNAC test in 2005 and doc said they are mere fatty
User :   Ask your doctor to send biopsy to the pathologist lab
User :   since its a foreign matter, does it become malignant?
User :   Lipomas and fibromas are benign
User :   The chances of them turning into malignancy is very remote
User :   Ok sir
User :   I heard about neurofibromatosis while searching but the pictures that i have seen are completely different from what I have. My lumps are round and 1 cm in diameter and are really distributed on my arms, buttocks and thighs, summing all counts approximately 30.
User :   The count almost remained the same for the entire 5 yr period.
User :   If you are bothered too much, get a biopsy done first, if the report says Neurofibroma then get further evaluaion if you have neurofibromatosis
User :   I read somewhere that it as a pure genetic problem. Neither my father nor my mother have any of them.
User :   Yes
User :   If found, do my children inherit these?
User :   am bit worried after hearing that since i am going to marry soon.
User :   That is tough to say
User :   Why do you start worrying before it is proved?
User :   There are lot of steps ahead
User :   one more things the surgeon who did the operation only said they are neurofibromas by simple physical examination. Can anyone say without performing biopsy?
User :   the remaining docs except the surgeon are saying them as lipomas. Bit confused whom to belive.
User :   These cases are dealt by surgeons
User :   Why is the difference if it is a lipoma or Neurofibroma
User :   Both have similar management
User :   whether to operate or leave them alone
User :   ok sir. I hope i am posing too many questions. I am also a researcher thats why i am digging too much into it
User :   No problem
User :   I hope you are clear now
User :   Thanks for consulting me
User :   yes i am. i wil first get a biopsy done
User :   Please consult me again if you have any further queries
User :   sure
User :   thanks for your support
User :   Bye for now
User :   bye
Doctor :   Hi
User :   hello sir
User :   may i know to whom i am talking to
Doctor :   I am Dr.XXXX
User :   nice to talk to you sir
Doctor :   Nice to hear that as well
User :   please read the following lines " I am 29 year old unmarried male. I have multiple lumps over my arms, shoulders, and to less extent in buttocks and thighs. These lumps are soft when one touchs, round in shape and are movable in all directions. The first few lumps i noticed was some 5 years back. At that I rushed to hospital and tested them. The doctors said that they are mere fat deposits. They also told me that nothing to worry about them and if they grow to large sizes they can be surgically removed. So I thought them as lipomas. Which neither my father nor my mother has anyone. Since then the number almost remianed the same with few inclusions so as the size. After that I have consulted so many doctores regarding the severity of these lumps. All concluded like what my first doctor said. More recently, I had visited a general surgeon for removing two of them on my arms for cosmetic reasons as i am going to get married soon. To my surprise the surgeon said they are indeed neurofibroma by simple physical examination.
User :   But the pictures I have seen on internet are similar to thats of lipomas
User :   is it possible to conclude by simple physical examination?
Doctor :   It can be confirmed by histopathologic study
Doctor :   by observing it under a microscope
Doctor :   a part of it shall be taken and examined
User :   oh i see.
User :   can u guess whether they rea lipomas/neurofibromas
User :   i know it is tough to say
Doctor :   It is not tough to guess, but that is not professional
Doctor :   Hence I dont want to get into a confirmatory diagnosis
Doctor :   without actually examining you
User :   i understand sir
User :   am i talking to dr.XXXXXXX
Doctor :   I am Dr.XXXXX again
User :   ok sir
Doctor :   Do you have further queries about it?
User :   dont feel that i am asking too many qns
User :   does my life be normal as others?
Doctor :   Sure
Doctor :   there is no basis for such apprehensions
Doctor :   why will there be any problem?
Doctor :   they are harmless growths
User :   bit worried sir as i am going to get married
User :   Oh i see
Doctor :   I dont see any relation b/w the 2
Doctor :   hence you should stop your worry about it
User :   thanks sir
User :   I have seen some of the pictures of people having so many lumps
Doctor :   ok
User :   my worry has increased since then
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   What is the worry you are concerned about?
User :   I know they grow as the age passes, but am bit worried whether they turn to malignant or not
Doctor :   That malignancy potential is not there for such growths
Doctor :   Hence you should not worry
User :   Oh.
Doctor :   Now, what is your main concern the appearance or the malignant potential?
User :   i consulted lot of doctors for the same sir
