User :   I am a 21-year-old with chronic constipation for three years now. I don't have a problem going to the bathroom everyday, but my stools are often hard and dry. This has caused me to develop a painful hemorrhoid. I've been treating my hard stools with prune juice every night, but once I stop drinking it, it comes back. I would like to know what the underlying issue is for my ongoing and chronic constipation. Thank you so much.
Doctor :   Hi
User :   Hi
Doctor :   Let me read the query
User :   Ok, thank you
Doctor :   Did you get a full medical check up
Doctor :   See if there are some nervous problem of the gut
User :   No, but I've gotten regular blood tests and they don't indicate anything like diabetes
User :   So I would need a full medical checkup?
Doctor :   Some people have a low motility gut, that causes less bowel movement
User :   I don't have an issue with going to the bathroom everyday, but the type of stools that I produce cause me problems
Doctor :   If you are one with such low bowel movements, then you have to carry on with these prune juices other lifestyle modifications for lifetime
Doctor :   Ok, I understood
Doctor :   So you should have soft stools everyday
Doctor :   For that you have to adopt few changes in the diet
Doctor :   They are
User :   Ok
User :   I've cut out a lot of junk food, but the stool consistency is still the same
Doctor :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you?
User :   Hi, I was chatting with another doctor but I guess they left
Doctor :   Let me read the query.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Have you followed what the doctor had suggested till now?
User :   The doctor just said to keep drinking prune juice and it will naturally go away
User :   he didn't even do any kind of examination
User :   but I've been drinking it for three years
User :   and it isn't going away
User :   so I would like to know the underlying issue
Doctor :   There are few medical condition that can cause constipation.
Doctor :   Like a few systemic conditions such as thyroid hormone disorders or due to local gut disorders.
Doctor :   They can only be diagnosed by examination and clinical evaluation.
User :   Hmmm maybe. It just developed one day
User :   I never had issues prior to its development
Doctor :   I would suggest you to continue with the diet control, and other stool softener products such as AAAAAAA
User :   Could it be Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
Doctor :   It may be IBS, however, since I cannot perform a clinical examination, I cannot confirm it.
Doctor :   It is diagnosed only when other medical conditions are ruled out.
User :   Because I don't seem to have any abdominal pain, just the hard stools
User :   So would I need a specialist or a general doctor?
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   What do you need>
User :   mean*
Doctor :   A specialist, a gastroenterologist would be a better choice.
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   Have I followed...?
User :   Ok I think I should make an appointment
Doctor :   You would need tests that would include hormonal assays, colonoscopic examination.
User :   but in the meantime, what can I do to soften stools
User :   Ok I'll ask for those
Doctor :   Have you followed what I have suggested?
User :   I didn't see any suggestions
Doctor :   AAAAAAA one tsp with milk or fruit juice every day at night.
