User:Hello doctor, my name is XXXXXXX
User:Doctor, i need your advice regarding my mother's cataract operation
Doctor:SURE , please proceed
User:she is 65 years old
User:she went to one of the eye hospitals in kerala
User:she is currently using specs
User:power is +1.5 on one eye and +3.0 on the second eye
User:hospital offered two types of lenses
User:multi focal (more expensive) and mono focal
User:we would like to go for the multi focal lense
User:I would like to request your advice on this
User:would like to know if there is any issues regarding the multi focal lense compared to mono focal
Doctor:may i know if your mother is active in reading etc ? or just sedantary ?
User:installation related, lens quality related
User:she reads, but not so often
User:may be few magazines, news paper etc
Doctor:the issue her is multifocal lens, have 2 lens in the same spectacles, and can be used for both near and distant vision
User:i see
Doctor:if she just uses for reading then a monofocal lens may be more than enough
User:actually, we are ready to go for expensive one if it does not have any negative points
User:i mean, we are ready to go for the multi focal lense
Doctor:no, it does not have nay negative issues
User:ok doctor
User:that is what i wanted to know
User:and also
User:the hospital mentioned that there are two types of surgery
User:normal one (2.8mm surgical hole) and the micro insertion (1.8mm surgical hole)
User:and the micro insertion with the alcon restor lens is costing about 60k per eye
User:is this a reasonable price?
User:this is multi focal
Doctor:may i know which hospital was this ?
User:this was, vasan eye care
Doctor:so this included all of the surgery charges, too ?
User:no, they said 60k+60k+1.5k for total
User:including the surgery and medicine
Doctor:It does seem to be a bit on the higher side
User:they mentioned about 45k (per eye) for the same lens with 2.8mm surgery
Doctor:you can seek a second opinion, at any other hospital, like Fortis or Apollo
User:they mentioned that the only difference between 60k and 45k is the micro insertion (lens is same)
Doctor:you can go for the 2.8mm surgery, if u want, as just a difference of 1 -2 mm does not matter
User:ok doctor
User:i will check the price with other hospitals as well
User:so in conclusion, there are no negative points for the multi focal lens compared to mono focal lens
User:is that correct doctor?
Doctor:yes, there are no negative issues
User:ok doctor, thank you so much for your time
Doctor:you can go for the multifocal lens
User:ok doctor
