User:Hello Doctor
User:I have a question regarding contraceptive methods
User:I have been enquiring about Copper T
Doctor:please proceed
User:Is it a safe method to use
Doctor:may i know if u already have a kid ?
User:Will there be any after effects when I want to conceive again
Doctor:and how many years have u been married ?
User:Yes I have a 1 yr old daughter
User:Ive been married for 3.5 yrs now
Doctor:yes, in your case, it is a safe method
Doctor:and it has a high sucess rate
User:I have been having heavy menstrual flow during the last few months
User:especially after the cycles started after my delivery
User:will copper t insertion worsen the situation?
Doctor:yes, for the first 1-2 cycles, you may have increased bleeding , and some pain
Doctor:but, it is not to worry about ,
Doctor:as time passes it will subside
User:ok..And is the insertion a painful?
Doctor:no , it is not
User:sorry but im apprehensive
Doctor:you may have discomfort, due to the process, but , it is usually painless, and will take less than 5 mins
Doctor:I understand, no need to be sorry
User:ok. and my question on if there are any after effects after i get it removed?
Doctor:local anesthetic with lubrication, will be used by your OBGYN, which will reduce your discomfort
Doctor:No, once you remove, there are no effects, other than this that u can get pregnant, within the same cycle , or soon after, unless u use other forms of contraception
User:I am more worried as I did have difficulties in conceiving the first time since my cycles were irregular
Doctor:did u have issues like PCOS ?
User:and we had planned for the first two yrs after marriage
Doctor:- means cysts in the ovary ?
User:no.there were no such issues
User:just dat my cycles were irrerular
Doctor:a copper T, does not affect your cycles
Doctor:and it also does not prevent conception
Doctor:it prevents implantation of the fertilised egg, and hence does not allow pregnancy
User:ok. thanks doctor..I was confused as I got mixed reviews from my friends on the same. One of them had it on for 5 yrs and now she isnt able to conceive.
Doctor:yes, it has to be removed, if she wants to get pregnant again
User:she has done that
User:but is facing problems in conceiving now
Doctor:there are other causes like scarring of the fallopian tube, or any prior infections, or other medical causes which may be the reason
Doctor:but, if properly managed, and in uncomplicated cases, copper T can be safe and useful
Doctor:there are other means like Depoprovera Injections, which also can help in preventing pregnancy
Doctor:But for all matter, the best and easiest way is Oral contraceptive pills, which need to be taken daily and they are very safe and no side effects in otherwise normal women
User:I have another concern, I have developed quite a bit of facial and body hair after my marriage
User:some docs i had consulted said its due to hormonal imbalance.hence my cycles were getting irrerugular too
Doctor:can u tell me if your mother or sisters also had such issues ?
User:my mother did have some amount of facial hair but not as bad as mine
User:mine is getting prominent by day..
Doctor:yes , conditions like obesity, excess androgens produced by ovary or adrenal glands can cause such issues
User:and Im not sure what to do about of now I am getting it threaded as a temporary solution
Doctor:maintaining a good weight, by regular exercise and weight loss will help in most cases
User:im not obese, I am quite skinny
Doctor:if any ultrasound has been done, before, shown any cysts in the ovary ? cysts , i did get a ultrasound done too'
User:i have read n heard about permanent hair removal, are they helpful and what sort of removal should I go for.
Doctor:do u have thick dark black hair on the face , which are longer too ?
Doctor:you need to know that some of the measures are expensive and they can also cause scarring, during the process
User:thick short hair on the chin and very thin but prominent hair on the cheeks
Doctor:Laser therapy, and thermal epilation are methods to remove unwanted hair , but they need to be done in centers with good experienced people
Doctor:have u shown them to ur current doctor ?
User:not really
Doctor:what was the imprression, given by her / him ?
User:im stil wondering if ive to go a dermatologist or a gyneac
Doctor:it is common for some women, to have them and unless they are very severe there is no need for any treatment
Doctor:You can consult with a dermatologist, who can examine you and give you proper advice
Doctor:but, before, that, you should make sure, that you have your periods, normally, and you dont have issues like irregular cycles, excess bleeding, etc
User:Thanks Doctor.
