The same is recurring again and again. a month back i was 75.5 now i am 77. This is making me worry more and I need your help on this. Please suggest me what to do? I have cut down my eating habits also but then too suffer this.

User :   Hi Doc!
User :   Sure
Doctor :   May I know your height?
User :   Yeah I m 5 feet 4 nches
Doctor :   Has the doctor located the cause for irregular periods?
User :   Yes they said me that due to my weight this is happening and that is why they suggested me to go to a gym

User :   No doctor i had all the tests done but i dont have any problem regaridn thyroid or sugar
Doctor :   Ok
User :   everything was normal this test was propobably a 6 months back i had
Doctor :   Do you have associated symptoms such as hair issues, acne, mental disturbances such as increased stress/depression?
User :   yeah i have hair fall
User :   but not too much
Doctor :   Ok
Doctor :   Let me explain to you.
Doctor :   Weight changes and irregular period are associated.
User :   i work in a comapny and sit in front of the company for long hours say around 8-9 horus
User :   and i see sweeling also in my leg when i sit for long hours
User :   especially in ankle
Doctor :   Yes, increase in weight can induce menstrual irregularities, however
Doctor :   certain medical condition such as ovarian cyst(PCOS),
Doctor :   hormone drug use such as birth control pills for the correction of irregular pills hamper weigh loss programme.
Doctor :   Hence, I would suggest you to first discuss with your treating doctor, if any of these 2 causes are actually hampering your measures to lose weight.
User :   but i as that was six months back i had consulted and i have stopped taking the pills
User :   as my periods had become regaular for two months
Doctor :   Ok.
User :   but again the same has been problem
User :   is it that irregular periods lead to weight gain
User :   or is it the vise versa
Doctor :   It is difficult to answer this question without physical examination and investigation.
Doctor :   Yes, periods can be irregular if you are over weight,
User :   ok
Doctor :   however there is one medical condition called PCOD,
User :   so u suggest me to consult the same doctor once again is it
Doctor :   which is one of the most important cause of irregular period.
User :   ok
Doctor :   and this condition is also accompanied with over weight.
Doctor :   Since you also report of menstrual irregularities along with being overweight, it is necessary PCOD is ruled out completely.
User :   ok
Doctor :   You will need a gynecological examination, ultrasound scans and if necessary hormone work ups to see if such condition is associated.
Doctor :   Medical drugs such as metformin will be needed if PCOD is present.
User :   ok
Doctor :   This drug will both help in weight reduction and treating the menstrual irregularities together.
Doctor :   Hence consult a gynecologist and make sure PCOD is ruled out.
Doctor :   Once PCOD is ruled out,
User :   ok
Doctor :   diet and exercise will be the next step towards reducing weight.
User :   But how is PCOD tested
User :   thru ultrasound scan
User :   is it
Doctor :   PCOD is diagnosed primarily by an Ultrasound scan.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Other hormonal assays done if it is really necessary, based on the ultrasound scan reports.
Doctor :   Have you followed?
User :   Yes Doctor But i hope i dont have major problems
Doctor :   I wish you the same.
User :   Wwhat if PCOD is ruled out
Doctor :   But diagnosing and ruling this out is absolutely necessary both in the treatment of irregular period and weight management.
User :   it is that some major problem is there
Doctor :   PCOD and hypothyroidism are 2 important factors responsible for a irregular periods and increased weight in a young female.
User :   ok
Doctor :   Your doctor has done a good job in ruling hypothyroidism.
User :   i hope they would undergo operation and all
Doctor :   If both the condition is ruled out, I do not foresee any other factors impairing weight reduction programme.
User :   i mean not undergo
Doctor :   I didn't mean to make you tense.
Doctor :   Surgical remedy is not commonly required in your case.
Doctor :   Conservative treatments usually will sort your problem.
