User :   Hi
Doctor :   How can I help you
User :   I was wondering if an infection within the colon system can cause an eldery woman, around age 73, to slip into a coma?
Doctor :   Yes any infection in the Bowel would lead to Sepsis and hence it would cause the Septic shock and Coma
User :   Will antibiotic fix it? Or do they have to remove the colon
Doctor :   Yes an Antibiotic can keep a chech at the infection
Doctor :   But then it would need to be seen if
User :   Well my grandma is in a coma.
User :   And I'm worried she won't wake up.
Doctor :   It purely depends on the clinical condition how she responds
Doctor :   to the antibiotic course
User :   Yes
User :   Her white blood count is extremely high. Like 40,000.
Doctor :   so first the doctor will start with antibiotics
Doctor :   and other supportive measures
User :   They administered the antibiotic 50 hours ago. And her white blood count isn't any better. Shouldn't it have taken effect yet?
Doctor :   It takes for a minimum of 3 to 4 days
Doctor :   to show any effect
User :   So tomorrow then?
Doctor :   and some cases even 7 days
Doctor :   so earlyy to subside the sepsis
User :   Yeah. They said they want her white blood count down to 10,000.
Doctor :   normal is 4k to 10k
User :   So it's really high then.

Doctor :   yes kidney problem with sepsis
Doctor :   could have landed her in coma
User :   will the antibiotic help her kidneys?
Doctor :   yes

Doctor :   the kidney failure casuses this
Doctor :   called edema
User :   is it a really bad thing?
Doctor :   it is serious

Doctor :   ok
User :   Oh yeah?

Doctor :   She is going to live
Doctor :   The infection should be answered first
Doctor :   and then the kidney failure
Doctor :   if the parametres are brought to the limits
User :   I'm scared.
User :   No one thinks she'll live.
