Hi
hello doctor
Good Afternoon
this is regarding my daughter who is 9 month old
Ok
she often gets constipated and have hard times in passing motion
her stools are pretty hard
Ok
she is on solid food and also on mothers milk
Ok
we are giving here enough vegetables like bottle gourd, spinach, lady fingers, apples, papaya in addition to dal
but still she seems to be constipated
Ok
also giving her enough water after every meal but can not overcome the constipation
Ok
i don't want her to give some kind of suppository
so can you suggest something
How is the activity of the child?
as for activity she is doing great
no problems in her activity
she remains active all through the dat
day
eating well and sleeping well
Great.
only thing is that she is passing urine very often
That is good and shows that she is well hydrated.
i consider passing urine frequently is because of the cold weather
Yes. It can be due to cold weather.
actually the problem is that when she has the urge to pass on the motion it is very difficult for her to pass because of the hardness of her stool
OK. Let me brief you about the condition.
we try to help her pass on the motion by applying slight pressure on her stomach
The main reason for getting hard stools in infancy is diet.
we are trying to give her as much as fibrous foods...but nothing seems to work
Certain food like bananas, cheese and cow's milk are known to cause constipation in infancy.
ok...
so we have cut down on her banana long ago..
Ok.
on the internet i found people recommending giving her raisin soaked water
will that help?
It does help a lot.
In certain children, soy based food also causes constipation.
Th main idea of treatment in children should be to avoid food that causes constipation.
And give food that can soften the stool.
so if we soak around 3 to 4 raisins in a cup of water overnight and then give it her through out the day
any recommendations?
One is as you mentioned, raisins.
and the quantity?
is it OK to what i mentioned
coz i don't want to over/under do the stuff
You can give more raisins. Around 10- 15 raisins.
Other than that, in general give her juices, fruits, vegetables and water.
thats what we have been giving her
what juices?
as for fruits we are giving her papaya
Fruit juices like apples, oranges and grapes.
vegetables include spinach, bottle gourd, lady finger, carrots
You are giving good fruits and vegetables for your daughter.
ok let me try the raisin thing...
Along with it, give more of water to drink.
i will sign off from the chat now
yes we are giving a good amount of water to her
Hope I have been of help.
Thanks for consulting me.
Bye for now.
