User :   Having trouble when I eat, I choke and cough when I swallow,
feels like some sort of blockage??? Also have stomach acid
and take slot of Tums

User :   HasThad bothered me for a couple months but seems to be getting worse.
Doctor :   Are you on any medication?
User :   Yes,for depression, arthritus in hip and bladder freq.
Doctor :   Ok.
Doctor :   Give me your age?
User :   62 and 13 months :â?¢)

Doctor :   As the diagnostic work up you need a endoscopy and stomach acid work up.
Doctor :   Did you take any medication for your current symptoms?
Doctor :   Other then tums.
User :   No meds other than tums, is an endoscopy where they run a tube down your throat ? And do you have to be sadated?
Doctor :   It is a procedure where a tube is passed in the throat, to find out any visible pathology.
Doctor :   They don't sedate patient for that.
Doctor :   You can take prilosec otc one tablet every 12hours ( two times a day ) in empty stomach.
User :   If they found a blockage would it require surgery,
Doctor :   As from your description it does look like a blockage. But in cases it does turn out to be one, you will require to undergo a surgery.
Doctor :   The decision for the surgery will be taken only after a performing a endoscopy.
Doctor :   It will depend on what is causing the blockage.
