User :   I am a bit of a Hypochondriac and my sister-n-law just had a heart attack at 54.Was in good health prior.Ever since them i cant stop worrying.Every night i go to sleep i get tingling in my hand and my hand falls asleep! when i get up it goes sister n law said she had that before her heart attack but im only 40.Any thoughts?
Doctor :   hi
Doctor :
in the heart attack you will have the following symptoms
Doctor :
tightness in the chest or squeezing type of pain
Doctor :
and a radiating type of pain to the jaw or to the left hand
Doctor :
tingling and numbness do not occur in blood vessel or cardiac disorder
User :   I know the symptoms...I was with her when it happened.I do suffer from anxiety and panic attacks. But I thought the tingling in my hands at night could of just been from sleeping position or pinched nerve. But she had this to prior to heart attack.
Doctor :
it is due to the compression of the nerve in the arm because of keeping the arm in the same position for long time
User :   i have been being treated by a chiropractor and its helped a bit but sometimes the ache goes to my two fingers as well as an ache in my arm.
Doctor :
User :   My sister n law had no chest pain.Just nausea and sweaty. It wasnt till they had her on the table to put a stent in that she felt jaw pain and chest pain.
Doctor :
User :   i do take lipitor for high cholestrol....would this help prevent a heart attack
Doctor :   it only controls the cholesterol level
Doctor :
it does not prevent heart attack
Doctor :
if you are so pre occupied with the anxiety of heart attack
Doctor :
than i suggest you to undergo coronary angiography
Doctor :
this will tell you the present status of the coronary vessels and whether you will get an heart attack or not
User :   you cant just ask that to be done..
Doctor :
User :   i dont know...i thought you only have angio if you are in trouble or if stress test or ekg show something
User :   can lipitor make you have muscle aches
Doctor :
angio is the best way to asses the status of the coronary blood vessels
Doctor :
and other investigation like ecg stress ecg are all indirect evidence
Doctor :
only angio is the gold standard,
User :   people with strong family history of heart attacks can have this done just by asking.Would you recommend this?
User :   how about a pet scan?
User :   if they find a blocked artery while in there will they fix it then
Doctor :   family history of heart attack is a strong risk factor and i definitely recommend to undergo the angiography to have an initial assessment in the symptomatic
User :   assessment in the symptomatic??
Doctor :
yes if they find a block during the angio they can fix it up than and there only
User :   hello
Doctor :   yes
User :   cin0000: assessment in the symptomatic??
Doctor :
User :   i dont know what that means!
Doctor :   doctors get the cardiac assessment done with the angio in the following situations
Doctor :
one in the patien with the symptoms of ischemic heart disease
Doctor :
the other is even after the patient is not convinced that the symptoms are not due to the heart problem and for the satisfaction of the patient
User :   ok lets back up.being on lipitor doesnt that help reduce cholesterol and help slighten your chance of heart attack.Isnt that the point. And why would my hand go tingly every night.but never do it during day.Its not something blocked and blood not getting to
User :   ok i get that...but isnt there a risk in getting the precedure done
Doctor :   the procedure is very safe and it is done on the heart attack patients to save life at times
Doctor :
well reduction in cholesterol will definitely reduce one of the risk factor which cause heart attack
Doctor :   tingling and numbness are due to the compression of the nerve which can happen during sleep in night due to keeping the limb in the same position for long time
User :   what can i do to hel p that
Doctor :   how long after you get up from bed will the tingling and numbness continues?
User :   only a few minutes.but i have had pain in wrist here and there lately
Doctor :   ok
User :   so what do you think doc
Doctor :
what i suggest is to get the calcium levels in the blood checked
User :   ok what would that be checking for
User :   cancer??
Doctor :   not cancer
Doctor :
reduction in the levels of calcium can some times causes tingling sensation
User :   ok will call to follow up on this with my dr. thank you for all your help will visit the sight again
