User :   55 years old woman (hysterectomy 23 years ago - still have ovaries...hx of numerous UTI)...last week: bright red blood spotting from urethra for 72 hours...2 out of 3 urine specimens showed microscopic infection...mild low back ache and abdominal heaviness...intermittent mild pains on both left and right lower abdominal area...night flashes and chills...itchy rash on neck and fever...blood tests normal...Am scheduled for contrast CT scan and cystoscopy next week but now symptoms of blood in urine not evident on tissue after urinating and wondering if all of this could just be symptoms of menopause??
User :   hello
User :   give me a min please, i will go thru your query
User :   yes from the symptoms you have told me it does have typical signs of a menopause
User :   but at the same time , blood in urine at any time is NOT normal
User :   do you have anyother medical condition
User :   No - pretty healthy - except for the UTI - have 2-3 per year since 19 years of age
User :   you do have over lapping symptoms , one can be due to menopause and then a blood in urine can be a recurrent UTI
User :   or a urethral stone
User :   and yes the diagnostic test of choice is contrast CT scan and cystoscopy
User :   which you will be undergoing
User :   so once the results are out we can pinpoint the condition and you can be treated accordingly
User :   the backache and abdominal heaviness and pain can also point to a cystic disease
User :   If there is microscopic blood in urine and no infection (as usually happens with UTI) showing up on urine tests - is there still possibility that there is an infection?
User :   its only from the diagnostic procedure we will be able to know
User :   my biggest concern is bladder cancer...
User :   i dont want to scare you about anything at this moment as a condition like kidney stone too can cause this and also bladder cancer
User :   when when you have been having this bleeding now ?
User :   have you lost weight recently ?
User :   is the pain constant ?
User :   Not spotting any more...some tinge on tissue up until 2 days ago...pain not constant...actually feel like wt. gain around abdominal area but no change in wt
User :   well these are some typical symptoms of bladder cancer
User :   thats why i asked
User :   are you taking any medications
User :   ?
User :   Took 25 mg of Zoloft to help with emotional roller coaster due to menopause for a while - not now. Mother is breast cancer survivor so I am not able to take HRT
User :   i see
User :   well dont worry
User :   just get the scheduled tests
User :   and then only we will find out and you will be treated accordingly
Doctor :   Hi Are You back ?
