User :   I had a right thorocotomy Nov 22nd for a mitral valve repair, I am now 10 weeks post surgery and still have heart block. I have no symptoms or palpatations during the day but upon resting and sometimes waking in the morning feel skipped beats and a racing heart. My cardiologist says my resting heart rate that used to be 70 andis now about 100. Is all this begnign and will it rectifiy itself? The only medications I am taking are asprin and iron.

User :   I am 45 years old pyhsically fit 160 lb very athletic, hd endo carditis twicewhich prompted surgery
User :   had retinal emboli, oslers nodes etc etc
Doctor :   when was the last EKG done ?
User :   Last ekg and echo were done last thurs also a holter monitor for 24 hours, ekg still showed stage 1-2 block, do not have other results yet
User :   oh I am5 foot 8
Doctor :   and besides the racing heart you have no other symptoms ?
User :   non at all doing 1 hour step classes every day and no problem. At night the skipped beat can actually wake me up its so strong
Doctor :   well your cardiologist is right here, post surgery many patients can have these symptoms upto a year and they will subside as your body gets adjusted
Doctor :   so there is ABSOLUTELY nothing to worry about
Doctor :   you are in good health thats crucial
User :   thats good to know I cannot imagine that i would need a pacemaker as the daytime hours are perfect, am I safe to continue exercising witht his issue?
Doctor :   yes BUT you dont have to exert yourself
Doctor :   and you will carry on to live a normal healthy life
User :   Ok I'll try to take it a little easier, I am not the most patient of patients and even my friends have said that they cannot imagine that I am working out like this so soon, but being active makes me feel good. Thanks for your time and hep it is very much apprciated.
