Doctor:How can I help you?
User:Dr. XXXXXXX my husband is having an extremely stuffy nose
User:while he has been taking steam, and otrivin as a decongestant he is not relieved
User:he is finding it difficult to breathe
Doctor:I understand.
User:kindly advise what decongestant he can take to relieve the stuffy nose
Doctor:Is he running fever?
Doctor:Does he complain about headaches?
User:at times
Doctor:Does he get this symptom very frequently?
User:yes couple of times in the year
User:esp at the time of season changing
Doctor:Have you consulted a doctor for this issue in the past?
User:yes.. everytime he has been prescried an antibiotic accompanied with sinarest or nise and otrivin or nasivion
Doctor:Let me brief you.
User:as per doctor he has acute rhinositus
Doctor:In the absence of fever and prodromol symptoms, this is unlikely to be related to infection. Seasonal changes (vasomotor rhinnitis), allergies (allergic rhinnitis) or a pre-existing sinus / DNS problem can be the cause.
User:so what is the treatment he can take immediately to reliev himself
Doctor:It is important to understand the cause of the problem before treating it, since some conditions such as DNS/sinusitis can be corrected to give him a permanent relief.
Doctor:Therefore ideal is to consult a ENT surgeon and clear this doubt.
Doctor:for the present condition, otrivin is an useful decongestant. He may use it three times a day for not more than
Doctor:5 days.
Doctor:If otrivin isn't helping him out, and if there is no signs of infection other steroid containing nasal spray or azelastine containing nasal spray can be used.
Doctor:He can also add Karvol plus capsule into the warm water for steam inhalation.
Doctor:That produces better results too.
Doctor:He may also need oral antihistamine tablets. As oral antihistamines are not available over the counter, you may need a prescription from a doctor.
Doctor:These options should produce better results than his current regiment.
Doctor:I hope you have followed what I suggested.
Doctor:Do you have any questions?
User:yes Doctor.
Doctor:Thanks for consulting me.
Doctor:Bye for now.
